It's not about realism. Nearly every change that leads to a better game is going to upset someone.Arenti wrote:Why do people keep suggesting things that will make people angry or annoyed when implented?.... I'm sure there are things that can be suggested to actually improve the game and not just because it's more realistic.

I RP at least some of my oldies as they're losing it a bit, but when he's the only one in a town that's keeping it going, there isn't much option - he's got to run around everywhere while all the 20 year olds sleep.
Changes always upset some people, but if it makes a better game, fair enough. I don't see how killing off oldies is going to do that.
And my comment about killing my account is the way people feel, as I've seen from the forums. If you have commitment to your chars, that's the way it goies. If you don't have commitment to your chars, perhaps you should be playing some hack and slash game.

The fact that the old are more susceptible to eating sickness? Or the fact that Cantrians are modeled around humans in a general kind of way?Piscator wrote:FTO?
By the way, why do you think a Cantr year should have the same effect on the body of a person as a RL year? "Year" is just a name for a certain amount of time. On Mercury, you could be 120 (local) years old and you would hardly start to feel the effects of age.

"You see a man who is very old pick up some potatos."
Ok, Piscator. Do you go first or do I, we're comparing notes on how old we ought to think a man that the game tells us is "very old". He could be really young. On Mercury.

Your answer makes no sense at all.
What has that fact that Cantrians are roughly built like humans to do with the world they are living in? The world of Cantr is inarguably not earth and the fact alone that a year has twenty days should tell you that a Cantr year is not an earth year.
If everything that's bothering you is that an experienced character is called a 80-year-old let's redefine the year as 40 days and voila, they're 50 years old. It's bloody arbitrary.

If it doesn't affect the characters the same as an earth year than why can we tell how old someone is? If a Cantr year is less than 1 year you'd not be able to see any change year to year right?Piscator wrote:Your answer makes no sense at all.

Just because years were shorter wouldn't mean that aging shouldn't show. The signs would just be less distinct. Cantrians are able to tell without error if someone is in their twenties or thirties just because it was easy to code that way. It makes more sense to think that Cantrians age a bit differently from humans, they might get gray hair and some wrinkles but aging slows down towards the end, and varies from person to person. We know it doesn't affect muscles.

Now you're just guessing. The burden of proof means that everything is false until proven true. And from the observations, and a little science called common sense there's at least some physical change in Cantrians.SekoETC wrote:Just because years were shorter wouldn't mean that aging shouldn't show. The 20 day year is a completely arbitrary figure. It means nothing. If it's going to cause such problems eliminate it. It makes no difference. You can tell your own chars age from their spawn dates, all Cantrian time is measured in days, not years.
OK, the "very old" bit is the big thorn of contention. Maybe this could be changed, but it's the translation into other languages that caused this to be introduced, I think.
