That idea with being able to recognize the voices of people you already know (and only those) is great! That will bring about interesting game situations where people huddle in the radio room, listening until one of them shouts "I recognize that voice, that's so-and-so from Siom!" etc. Or older well-travelled characters being asked to come listen to see if they recognize who is speaking.
That it's possible to assign a name to somebody without ever hearing them speak is a minor thing IMHO, since a) you can assign the wrong name easily and b) as that guy who shouts "I recognize that voice!" you can easily be lying. Works out because only you know who you recognize and who you don't.
Should it be possible to recognize someone later on if you've only heard their radio voice? That would certainly curb some of the vile anonymous insult-battles on the radio where some newspawn calls the MacGregors names.

You would only change the name of the radio voice. So you could know the person view the radio and NEVER recognize their face cause it would STILL have the "a woman/man in their...."
OR, you could even know them as something else! O.O
That was the dynamic radio names, thing.

However, the sex is definetly someting that I agree with!

Me, myself, being definitely a female, non-smoking and non-drinking, happen sometimes to speak like an old smoker drunkyard, and just few secs later I can squeek like a fangirl. Usually it's not intentional, but I don't have problems with not-any-particular-persons-voice imitation at wish either, so...
Well I work fulltime in a 911 dispatch center. We dispatch police, fire, and ambulances. I spend 12 hours a day on the radio talking back and forth with all of the emergency personell. I can honestly that I have never once had a problem telling if it was man or woman on the other side of the radio.
So, speaking from personal experience as someone that works with radios every day, I can say that telling the sex is not a problem. Age however is not possible to determine all the time, because voice pitch doesn't always stick with an age group.
Every action has a consequence.

In all honesty, I'm not sure how three age brackets for the radio (young/mature/old) could be described as anything other than vague, considering the spread of ages.
Seems to be much more support for the gender sense thing. Any feedback from ProgD on feasibility?

I agree with Elros that gender is easy to tell.
This, definitely, especially the naming system, if it's reasonable.
How about dynamic naming of voices that is independent from the general naming system? That way you could at least differentiate different speakers. (Although people would probably demand a way to disguise their voices if this got implemented.
