I'm guessing that the people who are saying Adam Brinks is boring/not played well either haven't actually met him IG...or have lost a char to him

Anyone affected by what he does complains about him. He kills way fewer than he could and you can always look at the other side. Both times hes been near Siom the town was growing quiet and people started sleeping. Both times he left the area they are more alert. Half the people who talk about him complain and want to kill him, make alot of threats about it but never carry them out. Adam is looking for his death so the day someone actually kills him im not going to be mad. His last few attacks hes sat around the towns for no reason just waiting. All this talk about killing him and I give people enough time to know where he is and mount an attack yet they never come. Olip West I think three people actually fought back. the only ones they killed (besides the Queen which was the reason he went) attacked them first. So tell me how he kills for no reason ;)

Oh and Dudel, find me one player that can tell you Adam struck their character on Shai island when he "attacked" The two kidnapped walked onto the ship and where used to prevent having to kill people. He used threat to avoid having to kill.

As for them just giving him what he wanted. All he wanted all that time was Willy. Some wanted to give Willy over and others wanted to protect him. If Willy would have been in Shai he would have taken and killed him and that would have been the end in Shai. Just like Olip West and the Queen.

*raises hand* I don't think he's played well and I spent a great deal of time with him with a character he didn't kill. We sailed for a several Cantr years. He's just... boring. I mean, he's not a TERRIBLE character or anything. There are far, far worse out there, but it just doesn't bode well with me considering the status he has. His character just isn't interesting enough to have really earned it.

As for Adam being attacked, I was part of a large group sent to kill him, but evidently they took too long. But trust me, they didn't dawdle. It was straight-out gung-ho &$^#in' kill this guy! Oh well.

I agree... I know that there are some people who think this is great and exciting roleplaying, livening things up, etc, etc... but after my third char who encountered Adam, it was really quite dull, and it was very hard not to just say "Ok, I get it, can you move along now so that we can get back to playing the way the rest of us want to?

I guess what really bothers me is that *constructive* stuff in Cantr takes SO MUCH TIME AND EFFORT to create, yet destruction is quick, easy, and almost impossible to defend against, especially if charries aren't awake at the same time, that it gives characters who want to go the "ooh, I'm so tough and evil" route a completely unfair advantage.

If I really wanted to do "hack and slash", there are plenty of other sites I could go to. Cantr interests me not because of the fighting, but in spite of it.

Have encountered him once with a newspawn (bad luck much?) but have little doubt he would be easy to kill with a well equipped char in the same situation.

Having had a character kidnapped and slowly tortured to death (with a chisel no less) I must say I despise the character and the player equally.
He randomly shows up and talks to a couple disgruntled people and decide I'm the bad guy. Whisks me off into his ship. Interrogates me with doublespeak (tails he wins, heads you lose) gets his confirmation that I'm somehow coldhearted and uncaring. Then slowly gets on with the killing.
I went silent at that point, refusing to play those games.

You've singlehandedly destroyed the viability of a whole coastal area with repeated attacks on weak upstart resettlements. Where's the fun in that? My char spends 20 years building something up, only to have it all taken away in two minutes. I literally was whisked off between exiting a vehicle and entering a building, less than a minute in real time, having no chance at all.
If you want hack and slash, go play something else.

I R thinks Adam's player likes a little Runescape in his Cantr. :lol:

On a delayed note: I know a few people AND PLACES Adam ATTACKED (no quotes) without provocation. But he's a pirate blah blah blah... I don't wanna argue. :roll:

You're not breaking any rules. You (the player) TECHNICALLY play by 'the rules' that have been stated by the game (You don't hack/cheat/glitch/etc). Adam doesn't kill as many as are indeed stated. Blah blah blah... It adds interesting RP. Adam is the conflict that is NEEDED to create a real world re-creation. Like any disaster IRL, people loose their homes and bond. Blah blah blah...

IN CHARACTER: Adam is a necessary evil and provides some varity to the otherwise 'simple' Cantr life.

OUT OF CHARACTER: He's just an annoying Runescape reject whom likes 'pwns da nubs' and says, "phr33 st00f pl0x?"

Nah. I've started writing a few of these rants, but haven't posted any until now. It's about 10 years ago now, so I've calmed down a fair but, but yeah I'm still pretty miffed about the whole thing. Doesn't help that I happen to know some more backstory due to another char either. The place had been plundered once before, possibly by him but I don't really know who it was.

ShadowWolf via PM wrote:Actually I've never played Runescape and refuse to. Also [Adam] doesn't look for "noobs" he mostly returns to a town years after to kill someone who pissed him off before. A newspawn would be a terrible target for him to kill for no reason unless they say something to upset him. If hes going to kill for no reason hes going to kill someone holding something he wants to make it worth it to him.

Clarifications:

Nub =/= Noob
Noob = Newspawn
Nub = http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=nub

After such clarifications, surely you will agree with the other half of my statement. :)

Honestly, if I had the power to hack and slash in my hands I know I would do so, and I am sure others would too.

Not true. When I encountered him, he slaughtered everyone in the town who wouldn't become his slave, including those holding nothing but bone weapons/shields with no provocation (not true in my chars case.. lol. Not a word, kronos!). He had a bizarre ethical issue with killing sleepers, too, but I digress.
