building dockable ships while sailing

Postby viktor » Fri Dec 05, 2008 8:28 am

i tried searching and didn't find a post

suggestion would be about the buildability of boats
to be able to build smaller dockable boats to what we're sailing as we're sailing, and to be able to build boats from a harbour or landing stage.

example, to be able to build a dinghy while you are sailing a longboat, sloop, soarer, raker, skimmer, galleon, or while on a harbour or stage

I think this was intentionally made impossible to not give pirates too much of an advantage. Sailors always have to depend on land for the building of new boats, and certain machines like the Smelting Furnace and Workbench that are used to make high-tech items and resources.

It might be acceptable to make an exception for very small boats like the raft, and only allow this to be built on the largest ships (Raker and above, I'd suggest).

Except rafts can't dock to anything larger than a darter, and even some things smaller.

Rafts were implemented to make it possible but not easy to dock to the traditionally undockable ships. If you're chasing a pirate in a darter, and can whip up a raft on deck, I think that throws it into the easy category.
