Just my theory here, but I'd think that if one person were to travel back in time, their being there would disrupt the known future, thus creating an alternate future that hasn't happend yet. Therefore the time travler could not travel could not go back to the time he/she came from.

Do I think time travle is possible, perhaps
Do I think it should be done? Not a chance
I mean we as humans can not keep a secret for very long. I was it intended that our enemies would have access to nuclear weapons? The last thing we need is some idiot going back in time, saving Hitler and all sorts of bad stuff. I say leave it alone. But thats just my opinion

I like to think that if someone were to do that, they possibly wouldn't exist in the present-future to go back to the present-past and therefore, the resulting paradox would make the entire universe unravel. :D

Alternate future, eh? Okay, let me think about this for a second. What is time? Change. That means the same exact object would change a certain way along one path. Then someone from that path comes back and takes that same object into a different change, from the same place and same moment. Does that really make sense? For the same object to exist twice just because it changed differently? I'm thinking in terms of the simplest thing we know: atoms.

If this alternate time thing were to exist, then if someone went back into time, they'd never know whether the future they came back to was their original universe, whether their original universe still existed or not.

**thinks some more** Well... Okay, I see the fault in what I said. Damn. We're never the same for two moments because we are in a different place. I suppose that having every last thing in the universe be in one particular place is what makes it that point in time. So if you have an alternate universe, those things separate into a different place in the universe, thus making them a different point in time...? I think I got it right now. :P

Oh, come on. Thinking is the best thing that ever happened to me, and it's the last thing I need to do. I have to make the most of it while I'm still young.

time is a dimension like the 3 we know and love except a little bit different. matter and energy are constant at all the points along it. because of this, we exist at many points in time unlike in space. the exact direction we travel through time and space can deviate (relativity) proving that they are not completely seperate. our experience at each point in time are strung together by our mysterious consciousness in some sort of seemingly linear order. the direction that these instants seem to "pass" i think is determined by the direction of the change in entropy, the only thing that differentiates foreward and back. going back is an entropy decrease. it's easy to predict the more ordered state we left and therefore we "remember" by extrapolating based on the state our brain has been left in. going forewards entropy increases. in this direction things are less ordered and so it's nearly impossible to predict the state of things that way based on the current state of your brain (yay chaos theory).

and that's kroner's explanation of our interpretation of the universe, of course assuming it really does exist.

Basic precept of relativity: There is no absolute space. It doesn't really matter that much how fast the solar system, the Milky Way, etc. moves.

Oh, I missed an entire page of convoluted discussion, so the previous post is a reply to a day-old post.

*reads*

*passes out from trying to understand kroner's post*

Okay, let's start with the pointless nitpicking. Ehlana, atoms are not the simplest things we know of. We don't know what the simplest things are, really. We know quarks, leptons and a bunch of force carrier things exist, all simpler than atoms.

As for the "time splitting" thing, it's the "many worlds" theory. It was originally developed to explain away odd things that happened when people were trying to understand light. I really have no idea what it means for grandfather paradoxes, though.

I give up on kroner's post.

Time doesn't move so it is impossible for one time travel.

I have just been waiting for a few pages of arguments to finally say that so that I could look smart. :D :P

space doesn't move either... so it's impossible for one to space travel?

um, I dunno if this has been said or not...but we will never invent anything to time travel...I mean, if we did, where are the people from the future? should they be here?
