Everyone and their dog (*I didn't know domesticated animals were so smart nowadays in Cantr) knows of Ranger John Locke, if not from in game, then oocly. I would suggest you subltey change the spelling of your characters name at least, just to avoid confusion.

Never heard of him, scouts oath. *winks* Seriously, I have never heard of him. I got the name from a series that I like. I was dubbed a Knight by the city I live in. I used to just be John Locke.

Phalynx wrote:In game it's fine... to be honest even if he was wandering around [LOCATION REMOVED] then it would make for some interesting RP watching him get slaughtered for impersonation or lack of respect etc. In a completely different area it's not a problem. I have lost count of the number of Brandons for example.

I was merely thinking it might piss nitefyre off, but then I'm not sure he would care anymore either (**Those rumors that I may be leaving Cantr are not yet confirmed nor denied officially, but I will put it in stone in a topic later this month, since the way to go out is not to fade away but apparently to make about 5 topics announcing--wait, I may have given away too much already)...

1. One is made to sound like a pissy oldbie who would get uptight about his late character's name being copied, indeed the most famous character in cantr as of a year ago, because he turns the other eye for a wee while, eh? ;) Well, not so; in fact, the way I see it, "[even unintentional] imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!"

2. To allow the story behind the name to go unclarified would be a dishonor to Cantr history, so I must give you that VH1 Behind the Music (Cantrians in general are sort of post-hip tv-stuff according to this topic, thus the allusion) anecdote. As can be deduced from the recent HOBBES COMMENTARY, both Hobbes and Locke were drawn from their original historical sources in the Enlightenment (not that creation called Lost) since the game was falsely advertised as something re-creating human societal/philosophical,etc evolution when I signed up for my first characters. And that was a long time ago. When the dinosaurs roamed.

4. For me to leave again without giving out the (unofficial, nitefyre-sponsored) merit-based "Fo' Sho': History Revival Award" would be unduly and so I nominate Phalynx to hold it for the upcoming Cantr year which must have ended yesterday by the time I got to this topic. His work in promoting the Locke-Hobbes-other great nitefyre characters foundation has definitely qualified him for this great honor. Kudos to Oasis and Sho for making quasi-references to those prodigious characters--they were runner ups.

Well it is a pleasure to meet you. I have tremendous respect for the early pioneers such as Captain Hobbes and yourself. You have achieved some great acomplishments, and I can only dream that my characters will be half them men that you both were. :D

Exceptional recovery!

And of course I know feel duty bound to mention my most favourite character: Laird Angus Tarbh MacGregor

Is he still with us?

Sho wrote:. . . and that's one reason why OOC-inspired names are discouraged. Of course, Turin Turambar was one of my character names, so I'm not really one to talk.

And on that note, I'll break my silence to out a few of my characters that are no longer with us.

Nicole
Guardian Ranger Turin Turambar
Rick O'Shea
Tzap Greenwood

Anyone who'd interacted with them would know that they slept way too often and too frequently. I finally realized I'd have no time to play any of them the way they ought to be played.

I'm down to two characters now, and I barely if ever log in.

It's been real though.

On my old account, I was

Astra Infinitus (loved him like a son)
Alexi Armani (ALWAYS my absolute favorite to play)
Flec Armani (giving her the same name as Alexi was a stupid, stupid idea)
Barnaby Jeromesmith (I still find myself talking in his unique dialect from time to time)
Corr ShathDra (he never really did anything besides write a few poems. Died one day without warning)

I had a few other characters, but they died early. And now they're all dead. It would be nice to know if any of them left some sort of legacy, though.

Hahaha I can't tell if you're being serious or not. Alexi actually got mentioned on the forums once, I think. Somebody complimented a painting of hers. If there's any character I wish I could have kept alive somehow, it's Alexi.

I've always wanted to go back to Shai and see if any of the traces of the republic she helped to start are still there. And of course, the paintings. She grew up to be a great leader and politician, but her true calling was always her paintings.

Know Drizzt (Well bumped into him a few times), knew Cynthia (interacted regularly).... and Wulfgar can go to hell.

Not sure, exactly, but my character might have had the pleasure of actually burying Cynthia Fox.

Aww, Wulfgar is everyone's friend! I can think of a couple of folks who could dislike him. I wonder who you are?

Cynthia didn't much like Savvy and the way she got into undeserved power by seducing the sleepy Lance. And the way she was in collusion with Naedell. Atleast that is the way she saw it Could of had fun with that dynamic but I had little time to do anything with the situation.
