Spawn location size choice

Postby marol » Tue Jun 17, 2008 11:48 am

When creating new character, a player would choose between three equal groups of cities:
  • most populated (prefered for new players),
  • normally populated,
  • less populated and
  • random choice.
The groups would be equal, so population limits for each group would vary.

What do you think?

I support it, just because to threw the random choice in there, and my last few characters have all spawned in the Brunoi/Hilloi area, all moderatly populated places.

What I see wrong though, is that for the large population there are only a few cities with huge booming populations that I know of, Doryiskom, Olipivash West, Siom, Zuzi (sort of), and maybe Blackrock Forest. I can't really think of a lot of really large cities, and most of them are nearby eachother. So possibly that for every 15 characters, you can have 2 most populated, 3 normally populated, 4 less populated, and then the rest randomly? I think this would work because people get a feel for everything this way, and still get some say in the matter. Also could help stop a few of the crbs.
When you hope for something, you often believe in something. When you believe in something, you often have pride in it. Being proud often leads to a hating of some group.
As you can see, the Jedi are hypocrites.

A nice idea, but maybe with a probationary period?

If everyone starts choosing only the busy areas after implementation, it's not gonna be a good thing for the growing areas (which will stagnate), or the small areas that rely on the odd newspawn (which will decline).

The selctions should be monitored to make sure it isn't skewing Cantr's population growth too much...

Errm, why would people only choose the more populated areas?

Personally, I'm getting totally annoyed when there are more than 15 chars in one place and I have to read through five pages of chatter when I haven't logged in for a day. I would rather choose lower populated areas.

By the way, what's wrong with looking for denser/sparser populated places in game? If you don't like the place, just go somewhere else.
Pretty in pink.

I agree about the choice but... hasn't it been proved by the current bias of new players chars to big locations that this doesn't work? Often there's so much going on that newspawns are ignored - I know this can happen with small places too, so maybe I'm talking rot as usual... just going from my experience.

Great idea. Playing in a heavily populated area and playing in a sparsely populated area are very different experiences.

How about an option to get on a different island? I had 4 out of 7 characters spawn on Treefeather. I have to change the way I would normally play them to avoid CRBs. Maybe make a maximum number of a player's characters per island. If the max has been reached, future spawns for that player won't be on that island.

By the way, is 1 character all it takes to spawn? I think the lower limit should be at least 2. Pushing newspawns on hermits and travelers can be a problem.

I've only ever had spawns when there were at least two people (I've been in situations when a newspawn spawned with only two people a good number of times)

You need two people to be able to have a spawn created, and his characteristics are based on a mixture of those two chars traits. They can both be of the same sex.

But the amount of characters isn't counted on the moment of spawning, right? It's stored in some table that's updated only occasioanlly, so people may spawn in empty locations. This wouldn't be a problem with regular locations but I sure would be pissed if someone spawned on my ship after I'd gone ashore and they stole the ship.

So you can spawn on ships? I thought you could only spawn in locations...
The following statement is not true.

It's updated on daily basis, and no, you can't spawn on vehicle nor in building.
