Containers

Postby shapukas » Wed Jul 11, 2007 8:21 am

I'd like to know the use of such things as madical kits, and so on. Basicaly it chould help to take more resourses then 15kg for chars. I think it should provide oportunity to take 16kg insted of 15. In fackt it lets. But only if i take 15 kg of resourses and then put in kit 1kg from the ground. But. If i drop 1kg and try to take it again, i cant. So where is the bug? Or its jus the whay it will be?

Containers do not increase carrying capacity - A persons maximum capacity is still 15kg regardless of containers.

Containser are just a means to store resources

Then they are useless. Why should i make those if i can carry the same amount of resourses? In fact those containers would take some space. So, what are thei used for? no whrealy. What purpouse dos they have? I think its just useles things. So why did you guys put them in game?

In the future, rotting of food into inventory or in the floor of buildings will be implemented.
Containers will avoid that rotting.

Why - in your opinion - Should containers let you to carry more? Is your idea to make new system of carrying items? (As a example lets take carrying 10kg of rice in hands - impossible, isn't it?) So it's a distant idea.

At this moment containers are useless - They are just for pleasure of havins sth like that, thats all.

So i dont se posibility to use eany of containers. exaple. How can you carry gas? Or dig it? Eaven in the future youl have tu have some sort of masinery tha will need some sort of baloons to fill the gas. But thats very complikated i think. And you say how can i carry more whith containers? Have you ever tryed to carry some uncomphortable things? And when they are paced you can cary more of them then unpaced. Thats the differece should be. those containers just for resourses, to be able to carry more of them.

If you have a slow Internet connection then if you put seldom needed items in a container, you don't have to see them every time you load the list of items in the location/your inventory and it will take less time finding the thing you seek. Also you can move things faster when they are inside of a container. You could have bits of several resources but you only drag (or pick and drop) the whole thing once instead of doing the same action for a million times.

An example for container use I have heard of:
Some people like to separate their healing foods that can be eaten normally (ie: spinach). If it's in your inventory and you run out of say, smoked meat, then you would automatically eat the spinach. If healing food is precious to you, you would want to keep your char from eating it as daily nourishment. Carrying containers is a way to do that.

This may be easiely answered but I would like to ask. IS there a way to tell the Containers apart. I have never seen one before in character.. but I have seen places with more than one barrell and you had to look in each on to find out what was in it.

It would REALLY be even more of a convience if you could Lable the Containers some how.

This may already be possible I dont know I havent see a Conatiner yet. That I remember anyway
Who wants to be normal...... Normal means you are with the majority.. and I dont want to be with them......

So, shapukas I asked you if you want to make new system of carrying items - 'cause it's hard thing to do, and won't be done quickly.

So - your idea is good - It's very good - But it's impossible to make now. Why? 'cause it needs a new system, i think. I think that little upgrades in this type of things, like adding more carrying capacity for character when he's taking things in container is stupid and senseless.

But, maybe, who knows ; )?

Think of it like this, how meny rise can you carry whith your bare hands? Not very much. and now put those rise in some sort of portable container and put it on your shoulder. Then yull still will be able to carry the same amount of things whith your hands. Maby there shoud be posibility only for 1 container in your inventory. I dont ask to implement such a thing right away, just to be done in future.

But in that is a little problem. how to make those containers work. If you'll board the ship, then all that is in container should count as added weight to ship. So in that case portables containers should give the oportunity to carry more then 15kg. But as i said there should be only 1 container per person. Cos if you'll take containers as meny as you whant then you'll be able to carry more resourses then whith eany transport. Thats not logic.

Don't try to make things more complicated. Cantr works as it does. Everyone has the same max amount they can carry. If people could have containers in their inventory that would add to the amount they can carry (- and who's to say all the containers would be visible to the outside? Apotechary kits are not. I bet spoons and plates are not -) weight testing would turn difficult. Well, most likely the containers would weight something and you could still figure out someone is carrying a container. Umm, but if given sand would go to the containers then the person could carry more than 15 kilos. Yeah. So you could give them 15 kilos and it would go to hidden containers in their inventory and you'd assume that they're not carrying anything. People would have to implement frisking and that would freak out some sensitive people.

Also I bet that if containers were needed to carry some basic things like rice or even potatoes in large quantities, containers would still take at least several hours if not days to produce, resources would not be available everywhere and many people would be screwed. Well, desert and mountain people deserve to be screwed, no one should go wandering there with poor equipment, but people in regular locations would be forced not to travel or to go hungry because RD would be arguing whether it's ok to have a hide sack that can carry two kilos, takes less than two kilos of material, takes less than a day to produce - would this screw over the other containers? Of course it would. That's why the other containers would have to be improved. Again. But it's not going to happen because like shapukas in his infinite wisdom said, containers are "useles". They're only meant for rich people and for RP purposes. So poor people should just quit making them and stop whining because they do not raise your carrying capacity and there's been no talk of such happening anywhere in the near future.

Umm, they can be used for sorting resources, keeping the rarely used stuff out of the way. That's hardly useless.
