Are we still fighting with the same weapons?

Knowing that the scythe exists and is a farming tool and at the same time a weapon, AND could be seen as a symbol of death (maybe), has it ever been witnessed in battle?

I guess you can assume that I'm wondering if those pointless weapons are still in combat use today.

I mean, scythes have a two-way function, but if they ever weren't in a soldier's hands, it maybe because of the always more powerful weapons like the battle-axe, claymore, and crossbow.

But really, sometimes you have to consider the resources you have available, the time to get them, and the people willing to wield it. Is it really only then that the pointless weapons like the scythe could exist in war?

Okay, maybe the scythe is a bad example, but I hope you get the point.

I have a charrie who has hit people with a scythe. But I do see what you mean. People seem to choose the most powerful weapon they have to attack with.

Its because of the way the game is structured. The first gram of steel you get is far more difficult then the next 1000, and for this reason a person who can make steel is more likely to get both a scythe and a battle axe because if they have the steel for a scythe, getting the steel for an axe will be basically no trouble.

This was the motivation for changing the skill/strength contributions to damage for each weapon. The overall damage potential was not changed, but who can achieve it faster was. And some of the mid-range can be appealing for the variety, such as the claymore, which is now only good for the very strong.

It also depends on what's right for the character. For example, a spear more suits certain characters appearances than a crossbow or sword. However not many people take this into account.

I've picked weapons based on my character's personality, but not anything significantly weaker than the best ones. Life in Cantr is too cheap and can end too quickly to be pissing around with weak weapons for reasons of diversity and role-play.

Appearance is really no factor. A group of peoples in real life who have only spears would still prefer a gun as a Cantrian prefers a crossbow to a bone spear. It's been seen too many times. Power always wins out over look, even if that power creates an entirely new look.

The only people to craft weapons for appearance are those who do not need them in battle.

So...Unless you're rich and live in a peaceful town there is very little incentive, role-play or gameplay-wise to c reate a weapon based on how it looks, only on your characters ability to wield it and cause as much damage as possible.

But for those lucky few...Wacky weapons galore.
