It has come to my attention, that a bit of what I said in a previous post, may be taken a bit wrong. I just want to say... My friends that I have made here, have touched my heart in so many ways, on so many levels. I have met a few and certainly hope to meet more as time rolls on. I wouldn't trade the friendships I have made here for anything. Some of you have been a shoulder when I needed it... a coach when I needed one.... you made me laugh, we have cried together... I hope that in some ways, I too have helped you.

I am so thankful for this portable box tht lets me take my friends where ever I go. I need you all... everyday....for one reason or another..even for no reason at all. I do get lonely, and it sometimes gets the best of me... Somedays I yearn so hard to be hugged.. a real hug, you know? But the cyber hugs....I cherrish every one,,, :) thank you all for showing me how much you care.... My post was not an intent to gain sympathy in any way... it just help me to deal with a saddness I was trying to handle.... Thank you all.... My cantr family.. is a real one... and I need each and every one of you.

Except me. :P I'm that annoying second-cousin who no-one knows why he gets invited to the Family dinners and is always late, very arrogant and ready to start fights. :P And no one loves him! lol :P

Sunni, while this is in response to your second to last post, this doesn't mean that I assume you absolutely depend on your friendly relationships online, nor do I think that all your friends can only be in contact online. I really don't think that at all. You can say that your post envoked an idea I've been thinking about.

Also to all who read this: this post is all in view of someone who doesn't dedicate ages to come to an educated conclusion. That said, I will do my best to reason myself if any of you say anything certain in response to this.

I really find it somewhat odd for one to have great relationships in reach of your computer. I'll say it point-blank: it's better to have friends in real-life than behind the screen. Interacting with people in person can sometimes require some body language, eye contact, and some good listening skills; all of which can improve the ability of your brain.

Now, online... Well, I can say that too much knowledge isn't necessarliy for the better. That could well relate to the people you communicate online as well, especially when someone unintentionally makes you have negative feelings.

What do you do when that happens? You could try to defend yourself and retaliate, or talk with that offender one-on-one. I would say neither, at most. As long as there's no intent of hurting you, there's no need to have any talk, because you know there's no hard feelings there. In my opinion, that's really how everyone here is: not taking things personally. I think I've strayed far enough on that.

The question is, why depend on relationships (platonic or not) that could well possibly be what's not shown in these, well, text messages and avatars? As long as you can answer that question confidentaly, then I'm sure you're fine. Because I'm aware that there are people who are physically isolated, too busy, and maybe too down to talk to people in person, and that using technology could be way to get your hopes up or whatever. But if you're not one of those people (or not anymore), and you can't answer my question without a hint of doubt, don't risk yourself to a time of dependability. Don't waste the chance that could be for the better.

Don't over-think it, Leo.

Friendship and connections come in all forms and through all mediums. To try and establish a relative value of cyber-friends versus face-to-face friends is to look the proverbial gift horse in the mouth.

To connect with someone - through any medium - is a gift. And personally, I'm grateful for any gifts that come my way.

Umm, true, sure, but there is a reason why she has friends online and friends in the real world. It's an entirely different type of friendship.

The good thing about online friends is that if you're tired of socializing, you can just turn off your messenger and not go to chat and be in peace. It's much harder to dodge them irl. In fact, I don't think I have any real life friends left. The latest one was obsessed by the thought that I must be a lesbian and having a crush on her, though I told her several times she turns me off. I bet she's the one with a crush, she just couldn't admit it.
Another friend I had (a guy) called me while I was grocery shopping and it was really awkward to try and handle talking on the phone while carrying a lot of stuff and then going to the counter. He always wanted me to go have fun with them when it's damn late and I most likely was having school the next day. Like I didn't have enough trouble managing to go to school now. (I'm aiming for lunch break at the moment.) Anyway, he's never called ever since.

The situation I am in.. RL friends are hard to have. I travel, stay in one place 8 to 26 weeks...
!) Where do you go to meet people in a town where you know nothing?
2) Bars/Dance clubs ..Bad idea... a man may be able to do that.. but as a woman , walking into a bar alone is bad on many levels.. You are not safe to leave after dark... not alone....Many Men think, because you are there alone.. you are out 'hunting' and they only get your attention to try and get... well... you get the idea.
3) Going sight seeing alone is not the funnest thing to do.. It takes time to get to know someone and trust them enough to ride into nowhere with them..

The question is, why depend on relationships (platonic or not) that could well possibly be what's not shown in these, well, text messages and avatars?

I depend on these friendships because they are all that I have..Where ever I am , my friends are there, and the people I have actually met... have been just what I expected when I met them. If not more so... I have met Surly, Hermi, Randi, Debs, Trae, Pops (and the rest of the family) Maelstrom, Wichita,Redgirl and Black Canyon

Each and everyone... it felt as though I knew them forever..and I wouldn't trade a moment of the time I got to spend with them.. With my travel, these friends go with me.. I can talk to them daily... My RL friends back home.. well they tend to move on with their lives when you are gone for 6 months....

Hehe...I have a friend like that, he thinks I have a crush on him. The awkward thing about posting this is that he will most likely read this on the forums... :?

No, I don't think you have a crush on me, at all. I just think you're gay. Mind you, I -know- you're gay. :P

Lol. Hey, Chris might be registering on the forums, so we can't say too much behind his back, but yes I told him that I thought you were gay and if I outright asked you, you'd think I was and then if you WERE gay, you'd be even more gay towards me. Sounds confusing but it isn't. Like explaining Cantr..
