Smelting of coins is nedded to support the coinage. Iron coins would be valuable everywhere if it can be smelted again.

And they can (well, reclaimed on a stone table). But that doesn't make them useful as coinage. If your iron coins were valued at the value of the iron in them, you might as well use raw iron. Coins are only meaningful if valued above their metal.

But how is this on topic?

So why spend a 0.2 days of labor on pressing that iron coin?
Just take your 10g of iron as well.

If the bank or businesman supporting the coins disapear, or if you can't access to it, then the reclaiming of coins is a way to recover part of the value of the coins, so accepting coins as payment becomes less risked.
Of course, in underdeveloped economies (no need to say Cantr is one of them).
