clothing diversity

Postby km17 » Sat Oct 21, 2006 4:42 pm

Well it came to mind that all clothing isnt the same, people decorate them diffrently. so i was talking and comming up with new ideas and i belive you should be able to make clothing more decrative and more unque. like adding toritishell buttons to your coat, or decorating your dress with glass beads, the possiblities are endless. This gives more serious RPers the ablity to distinguish thier charactors from any other charactor. i dont know what you all think of it but clothing is under rated and should become a greater part of the game, i certainly dont want my chars to be dressed like everyone else.

I like the idea, and I don't pretend to know cantr mechanics, but... that'd be a hell of a thing to program.

Nowadays we can use unadorned clothing as a basis for more detailed clothing. You want hide moccasins with turquoise? I could add it. And anything with glass beads. As long as the projects are written separately, no programming is needed. But if everything could be decorated with anything, yes, that would require programming.

If programming could provide an easy way to reflect the type of button added to the description without having to add an entry for every possible option, we would have set it up by now.

So you can't just have "type of button" or some such as part of the clothing item's definition?

No we can't without additional programing. The way it is set up now is that we have to have a set amount and kind of material for each project. If you want glass beads on a hemp dress for instance then the resource requirements would have to be changed, and that is not possible the way it is set up right now.

We can do like Seko said and add a new project for a specific kind of clothing that you suggest, but it cannot be user selected in the game without something changed in the programing. I hope this all made some sense to you, since it is kind of hard to explain without seeng the way it is set-up yourself.

Couldn't adding buttons be a project on its own?

Yes, we can do that. But you could add wood buttons, silver buttons, or moonrock buttons, and unless we created coat with wood buttons, coat with silver buttons, coat with moonrock buttons, shirt with wood buttons, shirt with silver buttons, shirt with moonroack buttons, ..... the fact that you spent some fancy shiny resources on your fancy shirt would get lost because a button is a button is a button.

ya but i thought it would be nice if it said something like a long coat with silver buttons, add more detail and making yours unique from everyone elses, i was figuring it would be like making a wooden shaft wich could be used for many projects, but i see the difficulties, guess im just gonna have to brag about buttons no one can see :)

lol then maybe we should try to organize it better, make seperate links for stuff made primarly of one type of cloth, like a link for stuff made of hide, leather ect..

Yeah, I friggen suggested that somewhere, in it's own topic mind you, I suggested a search engine where you can select what you want to display. But no, no one did anything.

*Grin*

Aye, and also, can someone stop the links backfiring and sending you back to the clothing section? Not that this is the thread for that...

*back on topic*

Still like this idea, much more diversity, and it'd give a bit of national *cough* Locational uniqueness....
