Well yeah, Reno 911! isn't exactly a scholarly production, but sometimes I'd rather not be screaming at the Council on Foriegn Relations through the T.V. watching C-Span. One needs light fare for sustenance as well.
As for British Comedy, Monty Python, there is this other British show with this Gormet Chef on some chateau that is ok. I liked Whose Line? The first few episodes then it got boring for me. I took a theater class in high school and some of the improv there was better than Whose Line? because you couldn't make blatent sexual references or other off-color stuff that gives the reflex laugh, instead they couldn't fall back on schticks like that so more creativity developed in the Improv.
Family Guy made too many waves for the Network Suits. I liked Family Guy too.
Have to add Brazil by Terry Gilliam even though it is a movie- classic English Satire/Comedy.
Light American Satire/Comedy that was good: They Live

You might mean Falty Towers but I doubt it. English comedy is totaly different to american stuff. My freinds and me just cant take the dam moral issues you bung into freinds and will an grace, for insance a whole episode about how Ross is so unhappy about breaking up wid thingamyjig, NO ONE CARES (well over here anyway). English comedy consists of three things 1. takeing the piss out of someones misforune 2. takeing the piss out of someones misforune and 3. takeing the piss out of someones misforune. And thats funny!
I do like Freinds jus not so much (hate will and whats her face). Fraisers brilliant though, and Cheers is good for a laugh.
did anyone see the golden globes when J Aniston went all sour faced when she saw that Joey(whoever plays him) hadnt won and Ricky ervais had. that was the funniest thing I had seen in a long time Gervaises speech just made it even better.
As for english to american transitions, ive never heard of whos line this is?(or whatever you called it) but The US version of Triger Happy TV was absaloutely useless.
##looks at what hes writen## jesus why cant I write essays this fast.
