I feel that I need to add a few movies to the list.

The Blues Brothers - Perhaps one of my favorite movies of all time. Great music

Monty Python (any) - Gotta love british comedy. On that, I head they brought back "Doctor No" ?

Young Frankenstein - Just strikes the right chords with me

Shogun - Very interesting movie and very well done. Be careful because it is eight hours long

If there is any movie you guys need to see this year or this decade then Serenity is definitely it. I saw a preview for it and it is awesome. I can't wait to see the polish up with musical score final version.

Before the preview, Joss Whedon (aka writer, director, creator of Serenity/Firefly) had this to say to the fans;

Hi, my name is Joss Whedon. Before we begin the special screening, I have a little story I want to tell you. It's about a TV show called Firefly.

Firefly went on the air a few years ago and was instantly hailed by critics as one of the most canceled shows of the year. It was ignored and abandoned and the story should end there, but it doesn't, because the people who made the show and the people who saw the show (which is...roughly...the same number of people) fell in love with it a little bit...too much to let it go, too much to lay down arms when the battle looked pretty much lost. In Hollywood, people like that are called 'unrealistic' ... 'quixotic' ... 'obsessive'.

In my world, they're called 'Browncoats'.

Whether you've watched the show, or saw the DVD's, or whether you've never set foot in the Firefly universe before tonight, the fact that you're here means that you are part of something...something that is a little bit remarkable. This movie should not exist. Failed TV shows don't get made into major motion pictures unless the creator, the cast, and the fans believe beyond reason.

It's what I've felt. It's what I've seen...in the DVD sales, the booths at the cons run by fans, the websites, the fundraisers... all the work the fans have done to help make this movie. It is, in an unprecedented sense, your movie...which means, if it sucks, it's your fault. You let us down, but let's not dwell on your failures because the work is not done. I have to finish making it. Obviously not quite the final cut and you will notice some placeholders in music and effects, but we're very close. Once we are finished, we have to get people to see it. Now, obviously the studio is going to do their thing. There will be ads and trailers and all that joy, but this movie doesn't have stars and it doesn't have a giant mega-budget or even a simple salable premise. What it has is us, the people who believed unreasonably.

If this movie matters to you, let somebody know. Let everybody know. Make yourselves heard. If you don't like the movie, this is a time for quite, silent contemplation. But, when the unfinished credits roll, if you still call yourself a Browncoat, remember the millions of people who don't...who might. I want us to do this together. The cast is going to be appearing wherever they can. I'm going to be blogging and stumping and whatever I can think of. We've got Can'tStopTheSignal.com up and running...I'm fairly certain. We're all doing everything we can to make this the event that it should be.

Just remember, they tried to kill us...they did kill us...and here we are. We have done the impossible, and that makes us mighty. Thank you for helping to get this movie as far as it has gotten.

Pretty much I think this will be the big hit of the year that noboby in the mainstream will see coming. And a lot of fans are worried that the mainstream people won't get or like Serenity because they didn't see Firefly but I brought a friend who never saw and in fact refused to see Firefly because when I described it as "cowboys in space" he said it wasn't his thing. But he absolutely loved Serenity and afterwards borrowed the Firefly DVDs from me and now is absolutely loves Firefly. With the word of mouth and guerrilla advertising campaigns by the fans and Universal's marketing power I think this will bring the mainstream audience in and Serenity is a great movie that will take them on the ride of their life.

Trust me. See Serenity. You won't regret it.

Look out, here comes a BA U-turn.

I watched Serenity this morning again. I guess it's one of those movies that you have to have seen before and have to be in the mood for.
I noticed all the clever one-liners that i missed first time round because i was too busy trying to work out the plot.

I'd say it's good, worth a couple of watches now; first to just see it and second to enjoy it.

I saw an episode of Firefly this evening, i dunno which number it was though, it may have been the first one because they'd just met Shepard and the doctor in it. I really liked it, on the basis of it i do not understand it being axed.

Also i saw Texas Chainsaw Massacre, which was great, although i think a lot of the gory bits were cut which was disappointing. I'll have to buy the dvd and see.

The thing is that Fox didn't air that episode until last even though it was the first. Fox didn't like what the show was about but they did pay a few million dollars on it already so they aired 11 of the 14 made episodes and aired the ones with the most violence and sex first which was completely out of the intended order. Then they decided to air the first episode they didn't air last and then cancelled the show claiming poor ratings as the fault. :roll: Then Fox released all the 14 made episodes onto DVD and put in the intended order that the creators wanted and it became a big hit. Fox isn't known for their smart programming by the way. Sometimes they'll actually make a smart decision (The Simpsons, The X-Files, Family Guy) but most of the time things slip right by them.

Hmm. Wathced Serenity...

I'm with BA's first opinion... it was a nice entertaining Sci-Fi film - the stroy was quite good too. I think I ruined it for myself expecting something a bit more thoughtful and above average!

Mind due BA... not sure why you couldn't follow the plot? A bit like The Manchurian Project meets Red Dwarf. There were hints of things which obviously only meant something if you watch the series... What is a companion? Why do people keep slipping into chinese or japanese?

Anyway a lot better than watching TV but not really a classic!
