I put 32 because that is large enough to have some small organizations within the town and some variety, but usually not too many people to handle and be able to pay attention. I think theres only a couple places with 64 chars, and none with 128, yet.
Maybe its not true anymore, but what I've noticed is that if you have fairly active chars and stay active and involved, eventually your chars can rise to high positions. Most of my current elder characters have done this, without really trying to push it. It might suck for new players and characters, but as with real life, there are always hierarchies to break into. This is what makes K island so interesting to me, it reminds me of the power struggles for unclaimed and virgin land like there used to be in the early days, but with all the improvements to the game that have been added since. Power struggles were much different when there was no violence, and then only fists for awhile.

I like rural, hyper urban, and small towns. I hate suburban sprawl. My characters like all of those options. But I would say about half end up in 16+ regions. Some wander, and the others live in 8- regions.

I like 16. Not too many but not too few. It is boring with much less than that and I don't like reading all the stuff that goes on in the large towns.

Yeah the towns that I am always in seem to have under 16, which annoys me because of the Silence. I like 16-32 because it is moderate. For example Naron used to have upwards of 30 people until a whole bunch departed bringing it to near 18 nowadays, which is really boring.

Not only that, if you are unlucky enough to have settled into a busy town and then find there are 2 romantic relationships, 1 baby-talking character, and 4 gamers that RP ever single action their characters perform.... which means everyday you have to pour through mounds of events and read maybe 3 things that matter.

Is that Pok? I haven't been there in a while, and my character almost died in the deserts, but survived thanks to some very nice Olip people. They actually convinced my char to go live there, heh.

LOL sometimes it can get to be a bit much, ever not log on for awhile and then have 10 pages of stuff waiting for you, or when you first start out in a town like that and you don't know any names, and try and piece together who is talking to who, and end up naming some people wrong because you see a reply that looks like the person that was addressed but it isn't. Or countless who are you talking to? question (If its me... et cetra et cetra lol If you throw a compulsive door knocker in it is complete chaos

I think its nice to have at least a few characters in highly populated areas though.

That's almost a textbook bell curve... looks like 16 is the sweet spot, with some support on either side.

I put "other" because it depends on my character. Some like the heavily populated areas, some prefer very few people, and others....wish there were more.....as in Naron. I suppose me as a player prefers the more populated locations, because I hate silence. I like lots of interaction, and then you can choose what you want to react to.
If you're going through hell...........keep going!

The average number of people that people voted for seems to be around 24. I thought it would be a lot lower, since the first two voters (myself included) both voted for 1. It sort of reminds me of the music topic on the unrelated discussion board, where the first two people liked classical and no one else did.

I marked other I like to see some towns out there with population sizes of greater then 200 people.
Somehow you strayed and lost your way,
and now there'll be no time to play,
no time for joy,
no time for friends
- not even time to make amends.
You are too naïve if you do believe life is innocent laughter and fun.
