Follow Nearby Boat
Basically, it's like matching someone's speed on a road, except you do it on a boat, and you follow their direction as well. I'm not sure if this should be an on/off thing where if the boat your following changes direction, you do as well. But in either case, it should also be made so that if you cannot see the other boat anymore, you just continue going how you are.
All of my endings are waiting to begin.

I like the idea, its logical and makes sense but, before that, there needs to be some way that you can see in which direction and at which speed another boat is going, even if it's only slower than you/the same speed as you/faster than you.
This would be fairly easy to guage in real life..

Hear, hear! That has always annoyed me that it is more convenient to chase a notethief on foot.
Adding it to ships would be nice, but I am sure that there are several layers of complication to the code, as it would have to match speed and direction.

Because of the complexity involved with boat travel (essentially full free roaming) compared with the single path case of land travel - this would be very difficult to implement and probably represents a level of automation above what is required.
What may be a compromise to help following other boats would be to show relative direction of travel of all visible boats - We'd have to think about speeds - they may just be general relative speeds (slower than you, same speed, faster ) as currently available in land travel
