Server Lag

Postby Doug R. » Tue Feb 14, 2006 2:05 pm

The last 12 hours, I have been experiencing extremely poor responsivness on the part of the Cantr server. Has anyone else noticed this? I'm actually typing this post between page loads (and this if from two different locations, so it's not my ISPs)

PS - the page is still loading...

EDIT: For the record, it just took me five minutes (literally) to walk into my storage room and check to see if I had a certain tool. I'm still trying to leave...

Me, too. I thought it was my computer, so ran scans and found nothing.

Other sites are loding fine for me as well.

What I suspect is going on is more animal work. Remember that post from Jos? He worked on them, then we had an accidental hunting miracle, last night it looks like some more work happened as hunting was broke, and with this lag, I suspect it is changes that don't require the server to be down.

This is all speculation, but, maybe someone that knows something, like the progD member with the holy cow icon, will tell us.
Reality was never my strong point.

Its not the animals this time , they are innocent.

We are aware of the bottlenecks with some of the processing and are tracking down the cause, Several new abackground processes are being tested at the moment and these may be causing the slowdown.

If players can bear with us we'll try to resolve issues ASAP.

In the meantime, we have a better idea what's causing hte problem. It's some kind of worm that infected our server. It is unclear whether we almost removed it or not.

Darn viruses! Will you have to take the server down?

yeah I was noticing the lag too. It lost my patience, and now I can't do Cantr at all. Do you know how long it will take for Cantr to work right again?

I've been experiencing slow responses from the Cantr server this morning, is it my end or are others feeling the same effects?

There will be a little lag this morning .

Some intensive databse queries as part of program maintenance are currently being run . This is a one off and should be over within the hour

It's still pretty laggy for me.

Very laggy sporadically today,

Yesterday I got the cantr offline screen at different times, almost randomly, I would play 2 moves then see the screen, play a couple more and back to the screen, then at one point I got a page of gibberish about too many connections...

Very laggy today.

To log in, this is what I got at the bottom of the page. I don't know much about programming, but in my opinion something's wrong if it has to execute 278 queries to the database just to log in.

10.831 seconds taken, 278 queries executed (SQL took 4.502 seconds - 41.6%).
