You will also need the following table as well

Code: Select all

name        speed_factor
path         80
sand road   100
paved road  135
highway     200
expressway  280

The Speed limit for all roads is 65535

The equations shown by Jos are for land vehicles.

Boat Travel is simpler and much more similar to normal walking - Ill hunt that out and post it

Mea Culpa... Must remember to look at the beginning of posts

Boat speed is the same as the walking speed calculation

speed = vehicle speed - (weight / weightdelay)

Weight is the weight of everything on board including peoples inventories , the contents of any boats docked or internal rooms and their intrinisc weight .

And just for completeness vehicle speed for walking is 10

Isn't 1 the fastest speed listed for any land vehicle? It sounds like a bus is the ultimate land-based machine... Top speed, largest size, and the highest ability to withstand loading of any vehicle. (small van has higher weightdelay, but it doesn't even move half as fast to begin with, so it's losing more proportionally.)

I find it really amusing that the only 'big numbers' are the road speed factors...

Is there any vehicle for which that third formula is used?

You mean the intrinsic weight of boats carried, not of the carrier, right?

Well the roads are the biggest thing involved in travel so they get the biggest numbers

No none currently exist

Yes , the boats/rooms carried, not the moving vessel . This weight calculation is iterative so includes people in boats docked boats docked to boats ad infinitum.

Intrinsic weight of boats and rooms is the total weight of resources used to construct them (as with other objects) so the intrinisc weight of a dingy is 5000g

:?:

May I ask why the boat speeds are so much more than the land vehicle speeds?

Because boats go faster IRL.

They use a different formula as mentioned before . Infact in most cases they are slower than most motorised land vehicles .

Everything is in the wiki now; just a little more organization that needs to be done.

Need to know:
What is the "weight delay" for a walking character?

Want to know:
What are the road improvement costs per distance unit?
Does the wheelbarrow affect the speed at which a character works on a road improvement project?
Walking, sailing and driving speeds seem to be quantized. How does this work?

:p

Hmm, with that known, people can calculate super precise road distances without any elaborate measuring ... should we really make that public?

Ignoring this one since I don't know :)

:?: Are you sure quantized is an English word? :)

When exploring new islands, my characters often use the cost to upgrade the road as a relative guage of the length of the road. And besides, once it is an expressway, you could no longer use this method.
