HELP!!
Okay...I'm trying to get a friend to join...but she said she won't join, unless you can create "fantasy" characters...like...okay, basically, she wants to know if, when she creates a character, can she RP the character like he/she is an elf...like when she first spawns, she gives a type of character description or something that explains she's an elf...*shrugs* That's the only way she'll join. I told her there shouldn't be anything wrong with it, but she said to check just to make sure. She doesn't wanna be breaking rules or anything. Hehe. So yeah....somebody help!!

It's not really a fantasy game. HEr character can pretend she is an elf and do everything that an elf would do, but really no one knows what cantarian people look like. They could be elves. The only thing that is for sure is that they are very small and dense. (They weight as much as their houses)

There's no specific subset of humanity in Cantr with pointy ears, period. I guess she could roleplay that her character possesses some freakish mutation that makes her ears pointy, but I really don't think that's what she has in mind. And if she names her character Legolas or something, certain people will have a very hard time avoiding a CRB in the form of smacking her character.

Very strongly discouraged and extremely poor form, though I'm not sure whether it should be considered a CR breach.
What would be allowable (though still poor form and irritating) would be a character who, due to some mental problem, "thinks she's an elf," whatever that means (thinks she has pointy ears?).
My gut feeling is that someone so dead set on fantasy roleplaying probably does not belong in Cantr, though obviously you know your friend better than I do.

Yuck! Well, I don't think she will be contacted by the PD, but such characters are not well accepted into Cantr society. My guess is that she will be shuned to the point where she will not want to continue playing. Perhaps you can convince her to make a normal like character at the same time (doesn't have to be totally normal, but not an elf or anything)? Then perhaps she will see how much more fun the normal character is then the fantasy char, before she gives up all together.

Like they said, she could say she looks like whatever... and most would rp it off as a defect or crazy or something...
Here is a CRB thread though that kind of shows how such rp is viewed from the perspectives of others:

Hmmm, LEEROY JENKINS!
Hehe, you play too?
Which server?
I'm on Blackrock...
My honest opinion is,
If she wants to sign up just to be an Elf, she doesn't want to play Cantr- she wants to play a Fantasy game.
If she doesn't want to play, she doesn't want to play, and don't hestitate her to do it because if I god damn find her spawning next to one of my characters, I'll start up a mental institute, drag her in, and either a) starve her or b) kill her.

Geez, everybody here seems to hate fantasy. Not that I'm assuming they do, but geez. I do have a real interest in fantasy; I just prefer to not have Cantr II set in a complete fantasy world, as do the others.
I advise your friend to not start her character life with a narrative description, because there are people who'll eventually come from a building, for example, after she posted the description, thus having those people not knowing it. She'll either have to keep posting the description (which could get annoying) to those who don't know it or just lose it in order to keep the, err, "reality" consistent. That is, of course, if she intends to keep the "reality" consistent.
So, starting out as an elf wouldn't make much of a difference in gaming terms. But if she's going to start out as maybe the very first elf of her kind, then there's obviously going to be social problems. As the others said, other characters may either say her character has a certain mental disorder, simply has been born with a false belief, or (accepting the fact that she is an elf) treat her badly for being a different species. There are other possibilities, but may seem to be unlikely. Hopefully it isn't to late to warn her of that, is it?
