Although I haven't discussed this in detail with Ephiroll, I think it's safe to say there's no need for submissions to specifically capture the 'Cantr quirks'...so as to not confuse non-Cantr readers.
I think he would agree
Just to point something out. Anyone who wants an idea of how the book will be made available should check out my Lulu storefront at http://www.lulu.com/ephiroll
Cantr will have a similiar storefront.
Another thing I want to make clear, is that this shouldn't be looked at as an 'player only' thing. As in, this book will be made available to the world, it will be playing 'with the big dogs' so to speak, and will be given advertising pushes far beyond the Cantr circle.
In short, those who submit will not only be placing their permanent mark on the Cantr community, but will also be taking part in an unique opportunity to introduce Cantr to people who may never hear of it any other way.
And since this will probably be my last post of the year, happy holidays, all.

I would also note that it is imperative to the structure of the Chronicles that one also tells us the relative location (when it was indeed written) of any piece of work with the submission.
Jerry, could you please add via edit this to the "submission guidelines" of the very first post?

Okay, secondly, I'm just going to give a few suggestions on how to convey your story in terms of prose off the top of my head. I'm worried to the bone that if I don't say this, we may just be getting the same type of story in over and over, and wouldn't that be a bore? I'm also saying this before I've looked at any prose submissions, so this is broad and general, and so, obviously, is not directed at anyone.
Three very loud general tips, to make them clear:
1) SHOW, DON'T TELL.
2) BE SPECIFIC in your...
3) DETAILS! Details, details, details! (as long as they're relevant)
Being aesthetic with the writing won't hurt, either.
I. Story
Easiest bit to decide on. My suggestion is focus on one incident, one day(s), one town. Just think about the multitude of options in that...the amount of characters, buildings, dialogue...
II. Tense
I also suggest writing in the past tense...the present voice will get quite tiresome. A nice out of the norm one written in the future, or about the future might be an interesting concept. Otherwise, if you're writing about the past, here's a few ideas to keep things varied.
III. Point of View
You're going to be tempted to use your first person (character) style. Try the third person out, see how it works (i.e. from your player eyes, for instance). I doubt any of these pieces are long enough for this, but a change in narrator could be very effective. Actually, ignore that last bit.
Also, dialogue, or direct quotations, can provide other points of view. If it is clear who is talking and how, the attributive clause (he said, she cried, etc) can be eliminated through a clunk of dialogue to keep it moving quick. Stories slow down without dialogue. Don't forget to start each new speaker on a new line!
IV. Type of Prose
Not everything has to be a memoir or recollection. What about a (Cantr) newspaper styled article? A journalist's periodical? A short story with a lesson (e.g. fable, allegory)? A theatre script? A riddle?
V. Submission
Don't be afraid to give it a try...and don't be intimidated from sending it in! Just give it a few proofreads and try to use a spellchecker. If you're unsure about any technical stuff, google it or ask us here.... And also, we're looking for poetry and artwork just as well.
Quality over quantity, too. If it has both quality and quantity, all the better.

I don't have much to add, except I can no longer read this thread title as anything other than the Chronic-WHAT?!-les of Cantr.

Don't take this topic off course. It's difficult enough to deal with CoC issues as it is, without these distractions. In any case, perhaps your time would be better spent preparing or encouraging more, quality submissions.
We actually have a fledgingly gap in terms of K island history (TBR and Karnon), so if anyone is interested in telling a story in that setting (e.g. a romance in the time, a newspaper announcing the peace, a soldier on one side or the other, etc), it may be nice.

Well, I don't really know where to begin, so I'll be my normal blunt self and say it.
As of right now this project is over.
The reasons for this would fill page upon page of arguements, but the decission has been made and the details are of little importance. It will suffice to say that we were not informed that this project would labeled 'fan fiction'. Which may not seem like a big deal to some people, but it's all a matter of perspective, and it's best to let that dog lay.
I want to thank all of you who submitted, I've enjoyed reading your stuff, and also to thank all those who were working on stuff to submit.
I also want to express my appologies for what may be a huge disappointment for some people. But it has been decided that this is for the best, once again for numerous reasons of which the details matter not.

Dunno if anyone's said this already but poetry.com is a scam. Steer clear in the future. If they own the copyright, you don't.

It is true and disappointing that the Chronicles of Cantr has been cancelled for extenuating circumstances, which are deeply layered and not worth digging up. I've avidly been pursuing submissions (and later, co-editing submissions) over the last few months, so I apologize for those who also put a fair bit of effort into creating something particularly for it. Some of the poetry content shall be returned in a more finalized form--an "Editor's Proof"--if time permits, although the prose is already being destroyed (as will all material within the next couple of days). Nonetheless, a lot of this content can probably find a home at webzine@cantr.net .

Huh?
I'm sorry but I don't understand the reason for this... You said it doesn't matter, but it kind of matters to me, after all the work I invested.
All of a sudden it's just not happening?
And what's this about "prose already being destroyed"??
