Re: Faery Tale Online (FTO)
FTO players are scary sometimes. They want us to speak and behave like children, but then, when a five years old boy gets some shitty bone mask from the ground, his grandfather chops his head off because he is a "bad spirit kutari"? WTF?

Re: Faery Tale Online (FTO)
Someone in my colony killed a little boy for finding out outside the game that he was played by a known repeated-offending cheater. Maybe it was something like that?

This was my second char. I can't be a known repeated-offending cheater(kroc?)...
For me it was just bad RP.

Muidoido, if you talk about who I think you talk about, the main reason there was not picking up the mask, but picking up containers, too, and starting to hunt without any roleplay for a looong time. I think FTO players are a bit (over)sensitive on this point.

Re: Faery Tale Online (FTO)
Yeah, I figured that out after some PM exchanging with a player... Those containers were from his dead mother, and the hunt RP wasn't so bad...
But whatever... He's history now!
At least now we don't have to wait 3 months for another char.

Managed to make it from 175 to 50 in about two and a half weeks...please tell me this game is going to be worth the wait.
And does anyone have any RP advice? I don't know whether to expect something Cantr-style or not.

Re: Faery Tale Online (FTO)
It depends on what you expect from it.
It basically is a roleplay platform that tries to stifle RP as much as possible in its user interface,
.
I've decide to put another char in the birth pool, probably just for laughs but it depends on where it ends up.

Re: Faery Tale Online (FTO)
Apparently if you act suspiciously trollish, it's likely to get you killed. Before your first year you can't talk (besides random baby babbling) so I suggest emoting a lot and if you have to say something, it's best to put one word at a time because it sounds more like you mean business than if it says "mama dada waaah!" If you don't get enough attention, it's good to cry noisily but instead of just writing plain *cries*, go into more detail like the little face scrunching up and turning red, snot flowing out of the nostrils. First the baby can't do much, then they can stare at their hands and try to grab things, learn to roll over, crawl, sit and finally walk.
After first birthday you should start learning to talk, but certainly shouldn't speak like an adult. More babbling, then single words, short sentences around 2 years. Maybe repeating what you hear might be a good idea. Or making up your own names for things. I have two characters and both were mostly ignored when they were little, people didn't talk to them much so neither one learned to speak properly. Other one has a loving foster family so she's now learning to speak at 24. The other one is a social recluse.
To avoid looking trollish, don't make armor or weapons until you're like 10 or 12, unless the colony encourages you to do it sooner. If you see others hunting, you can rp to chase small animals, then make a harmless simple weapon like a bone club and try hunting for real. Could try admiring an older person's armor and maybe they'll teach you how to make it. If you can find a pot or something, you can wear it on your head and pretend it's a helmet. Or tie hides around your middle and pretend it's armor. Ensure you look harmless and childlike, not someone who's training to slaughter everybody.

Re: Faery Tale Online (FTO)
Yeah, and doing that same boring and forced sequence of growing up RP for every char, just to die of hunger because I had bad parents (two times), or being murdered because I got my mother's stuff from her house after she died (once) is what made me give up on FTO.
I don't see the point of forcing the player to RP being a child, if every race treat their children the same way, like a grown up person with disabilities. It's not acceptable for me that a normal father or mother kills their 5-6 years old kid with an axe because they did something "trollish" like carrying a small box around. I'm sure I was unlucky with my families, but this is too OOC for me. Here in cantr we try to keep things flowing, even with certain "trollish" or "cloner" players...
Last, I think the interface is beautiful (but not well implemented) and the game idea is interesting, and I really wish one of my chars survived childhood, so I could start playing something interesting.

I have to disagree on the interface. I think it looks horrible and it the way it was executed was just as poorly. I still have fun with the game, though I do agree, that I get annoyed sometimes with the amount of OOC. I'd also be lying if I would say I hadn't contributed to it. It's just too easy.

Personally, I wish that infants were immobile for at least a brief period of time. It's very irritating when a day old baby crawls off. Having to shut up and watch your family interact allows time for the new char to learn the culture. Granted, your parents and other family members make all the difference between a good and crappy experience. Even at that, you can RP the effects it has on your char to be ignored as a child.

Re: Faery Tale Online (FTO)
I agree that babies should be immobile, and I don't know if picking up containers is possible from the start but it shouldn't be. If someone has to pick up a container, remember to put it back afterwards, at least if it's heavy. While there's no system that allows taking objects away from children, the only way to accomplish it is by killing them. If I was in the position, I would try to talk rather than kill a child, and I'd rather take the risk of someone growing up to be a massacrist than kill a child just in case. Other people seem to think that to preserve a colony, it's better to kill suspicious kids just in case. I think that's poor rp, but they're protecting themselves and other older colony members because they've made it too easy for a child to slaughter adults.

This. It seriously rapes my eyes. FTO is the one singe place in the net where I need to use the View->Size option to be able to use it with a minimal comfort.
Sometimes I wonder why the hell am I playing it at all...

Re: Faery Tale Online (FTO)
Thanks guys
Really appreciate the advice, particularly about playing a baby. I don't really want to play a gurgling, cooing, crying baby, but I guess I'll have to! I'm going to be very careful, because I'll be very upset if I waited for so long only to have the poor thing killed.
So...FTO players know perfectly well how long it takes to have a char born, but some are willing to kill it early on. Seriously, who does that?
Edit - I'm down to 24th now!
