I'm really starting to dislike how people sleep through the first year or two until they're able to talk and do stuff. I've seen so many lately only wake their babies long enough to scream for food then log right off. Makes me want to do an OOC message right after the birth saying "if you don't try to interact with your family, you starve". It makes life very boring for the family members stuck inside caring for and cooking like crazy for the babies.

I hope I'm not one of those kids. I only login once a day, for a few minutes before bed after checking email and such... horrible for proper RP, I know, but it's an interesting game so far, and the parents and such are very much silent as well, so it suits me.

If someone is not active as a baby, they're hardly going to be active when older either, assuming they even survive that far.

If your parents are silent, then maybe it works fine that you're a quiet baby. lol I dunno. The colony where my char is usually has a few who are interested in the babies and try to play with them. It's just disappointing when you make some effort to interact and get no response other than "screams for food....eats food then yawns and closes eyes". My char was curious about the babies at first but no longer cares much about them after several attempts to interact with different ones.
I understand not everyone has time to play a lot - that's different if you at least show some signs of life and interest when you are able to log on.

I agree with the whole lets log on and cry for food crap. It is annoying. Or the fact that you can see the player is on but they never say anything even if you try to interact. I have several chars that I play and I go back and forth throughout the day. If I see on that is active, I stay on that more then the others. I know that if my char's child.. the one that is active.. if I see her up, I will rp with her and everything. But I have no issues with going in and out of the house that they are in. I want to rp. I wouldn't care if the children cried and threw temper tantrums and the like IF they would actually put forth the effort. There is also an OOC parchment on the ground if someone is in need of help. Just annoying when they don't try.

Re: What is FTO?
Good lord, my eldest just gave birth to 6.
I'm hoping I get some nice rpers with a few because her first two children, while active, are obviously first timers attempting to rp and are fairly horrid (though one is making an attempt to get better).

Re: What is FTO?
Currently I would be happy for the ones that are attempting then the ones that sleep.

Re: What is FTO?
I still love my firstborn for at least being active at least, they can at least get better over time with the rp.
So 2 of 6 have woken - yea! I'm rooting for the rest!

Re: What is FTO?
Here's my epic FTO story.
I signed up, stared for months at the "Your position in the birth queue is:" message, then finally my character spawned. I found out that I couldn't do a thing and whatever I put into the text box, some gibberish was generated instead. "Ok, I am a baby. I can wait another month or two..." Then some time passed and I got a message telling me that my character starved to death.
What's a baby character for? He cannot speak but he's supposed to make his own sandwiches?

Re: What is FTO?
1) Your text is only made into baby gibberish for 6 days. You can still emote in this time, just not talk- and rightfully so.
2) If you ignored your baby for 1-2 months, no doubt your parents thought you were turned sleeper child (at 1month you'd be 4, two 8-9) So.. The culture might not feed sleeper babies, and that's probably what happened.
3) If you had kept going in, at 6 days (1yr old) you could help with projects and foraging, and speak (all with rp from your parents of course, babies shouldn't magi-learn). Eighteen days after birth (3yrs old) you could start your own projects (Like, you know, food. I mean you don't even have to roleplay learning, but heck, do you know any three year olds who can roast meat without being taught?)

Re: What is FTO?
I don't think you can start your own projects at 3, or at least I seem to remember I couldn't. Then I probably didn't try at age 4 and waited until age 5. I've been fed rather consistently so I only learned to take food from a container now, and even that was first to feed a smaller baby rather than myself. My character only knows a handful of words in addition to names and might not even know the proper meaning of these words but I generally repeat what I hear often and observe the reaction. OOC I dislike babies that learn to speak too fast.

Re: What is FTO?
I didn't ignore the baby for months, I just feared the babbling period would take that long. I think I checked it every day or so and saw that I still couldn't do a thing. I tried emoting, but all the output was just gibberish.
It was a long time ago, but I think the baby starved within a week or two. I don't remember seeing "you are hungry" messages like in Cantr either...
I know, I should have read the instructions, but I don't think I'll have the patience to try it again.
