Re: Skyrim
I bought it through Steam, and it works very well, Yay. And I love it. Now leave me alone I need to play Skyrim.

I'm probably hosing my char because I haven't done much planning for it and I'm not paying attention to what I'm doing with skills. Maybe after this weekend I'll start over. Right now I've got a wood elf that I'm playing melee and occasionally whipping out the bow when I want to do a sneak attack. Sadly, I haven't been able to play a lot so I'm just enjoying it and not doing much thinking.

I am playing through pretty much purely as a mage. I've been sticking to mostly destruction and restoration spells, though I would really like to work on my conjuration. I have so much gold I don't know what to do with it, so I think I am going to pay to level up my conjuration.
I have completed the mage's guild (which was awesome) and some other various side quests, but I think I am going to beat the game and do any other magic related quests. This character, I can't really see doing the bard, thieves, or dark brotherhood quest lines. So once i beat the game, this character is done.
After I beat the game, I'm probably going to let it sit for a few months and let the modding community get their hands on it. I have a feeling that the UI is going to be redone by its fan pretty early on. Once that happens, I'll be making a rogue like character that concentrates on dual daggers and bows. I'll probably learn illusion magic on the side.

Re: Skyrim
I love this game! Aside from Cantr and Minecraft, this is where I spend most of my freetime
In regards to the character class, I'm running two:
The first is a spellsword: Basically a mage who augments magic with alchemy and some light combat skills. Works out really well. Given, alchemy's not the broken monstrosity that it was in Morrowind, but it still allows some fairly awesome cheese.
The second, and my favourite, is a pure ranger: Dual daggers, bow, some restoration, lots of alchemy and smithing. I'm playing the character so that I don't have to buy anything. I smith all my own equipment and sell what I don't need. Level 15 and working really well so far. I would definitely give this a try if you're into exploring every nook and cranny!

Re: Skyrim
I find that I don't really bother with specializing much. I'll do everything and join everything, so I end up as somewhat of a jack-of-all-trades with an emphasis on stealth. In Morrowind, Oblivion, and now Skyrim, my character always starts off as a Redguard thief, but then it becomes "What, join your organization? Hell yes, sign me up!" I am nothing if not ineffectual.
That's going to end up leveling me into a corner, so I'm going to put some time into smithing and enchantment so I can maybe offset my inflated level with equipment that'll let me stay alive.

Re: Skyrim
I couldn't imagine playing two chars in this game! No idea how many hours I've put into it so far (a lot to me considering there are so many other things I should be doing with my time), and have only just last night added a 4th major city to the list of those I've explored. I'm worse than ADD when I play - I like to travel by foot between quests and any of those undiscovered places that appear on my "radar" become a detour, followed by another detour, etc. It's just staggering to me how much they've put into the world.
I'm trying to stick with one-handed, archery, light armor and toss in some sneak (use this a LOT) and I use lockpicking often. I thought about working on smithing or alchemy but don't want to level on those skills. Haven't made a choice yet between Imperials and Stormcloaks. That's one decision I'm delaying because neither side really appeals to me.
So, which followers do people use? I'm actually fond of Lydia and have used the console "cheat" to get her level caught up. Been thinking about trying out another but I pick up so much crap that I need a good mule.

Re: Skyrim
I've been putting off the Imperial/Stormcloak decision, but I'll probably end up on the Imperial side because I don't like Ulfric Stormcloak's anti-everyone-but-Nords attitude. I find myself wishing it was possible to join the Forsworn, though; I'd do that in a heartbeat.
I haven't used any followers yet because I'd probably feel terribly guilty if they died and I'm afraid they'd just get in the way more than they'd help. I should probably give one a go before I write them all off.

That's what save/load are for! Sadly, I do feel guilty when it happens. If she starts falling too often, I figure her level has gotten too far behind. I'm also selfish and load her up with equipment that boosts her carrying capacity rather than combat/armor and use her as a meat shield so maybe I don't have a right to feel bad when she dies.

I thought about picking up a mage or healer as a follower but hesitate because they likely won't be able to hold as much as one of the warrior types. Maybe there's no difference, though. I'm not sure how that works but I would expect magic users wouldn't have high stamina.
It does freak me out sometimes when everything is quiet then all of a sudden she says something.

Re: Skyrim
Has Skyrim become unplayable for anyone? I am referring to freezes and lag due to later save file size, especially on PS3. I've read that Xbox and PC are not immune to these problems. If the game is still playable, how many hours have you played, and how big is your save file? I haven't bought the game yet; I figured I would wait for a lower price and patches. However, these stability issues are supposedly part of the game engine, so how much they can be fixed is in doubt.

Re: Skyrim
From what I read (don't have the game myself), it has troubles on the PS3 due to save buffer sizes on that console. It has less problems on the Xbox for the same reason, but the issue can still occur. As far as I know PC is not hampered by this issue, unless you have a really old machine, I guess.

Re: Skyrim
I play on PC and haven't had any issues. Then again, my save file is only 9mb. If the numbers included in the save file name are the time played then I've got about 124.5 hours invested so far.
