Armageddon MUD

Postby CantrFreak » Thu Jun 03, 2010 6:41 pm

A role-playing intensive MUD, and a very good one at that in my opinion. The playerbase (and staff) are both very involved and very helpful. If I'm correct it's one of the oldest RPI MUDs out there. o.O

It's very much like Cantr where skills and money aren't the main objective (unless your character has the IG goal of becoming the best at something or the richest). It's set in a -very- harsh environment. Water and food is scarce in the desert enviroment. Metal is a thing of legend practically. Anyway, from my own experiences I've gotten held up by elven bandits (a real PC), attacked by scrabs, etc. in my first few days of playing. Slavery, thievery, murder and all that is very commonplace.

Currently I'm part of the Arm of the Dragon, the militia in the southern city of Allanak. My daily life consists of (yes, people have a daily schedule usually :o) going to the bararcks, sparring and doing drills early in the morning. I have break at high noon, then maybe patrols afterwards (on one occasion finding something where me and a fellow recruit had to stand guard for the night) and we're off for the night. Course not every profession has a schedule like that and some are more free to do what they wish. I've seen private businessmen actually flourish in this game so.. yeah. ;]

Even though it's not a freeform society like Cantr, it's a very good one and it's really interesting to read about the social norms and cultures of the two major powers (and a few minor ones). They've even got it down to differences in fighting style, clothing, government, how they react to nobility, etc.

Here's some interesting playerlogs by the way.

I urge you took skim through the logs and find an interesting one, there's all sorts of things in this game.

ARM is great for people looking for a harsh, fast-paced RPI MUD, but it may be unfriendly to those new to MUDding in general (though the playerbase goes well out of their way to be as friendly and helpful as possible OOCly). I'll second the recommendation, and encourage anyone interested to give it a go.

I've played the MUD off and on since 04, and adding to the list of personal experience: hired out on suicidal contracts in the T'zai Byn, dragged an officer away from a horde of spiders in the 'nakki militia, chilled with runaway slave muls, was betrayed by sorcererous half-elves, teleported to another plane of existence, molested by magic sand hands, eaten by giant, mind-reading beetles, uh... accidentally kited a mekillot to the gates of Allanak and started a city-wide rampage, skulked in sewers, watched more templar than I can count now fall down into dark holes and die, and led an entire unit of PCs twice-over to their deaths, and slept clinging to the side of the Shield Wall.

Ha, seriously guys. Look this up. Everybody's a very skilled RPer. I'd have to say they're on a much higher calibre than those on FTO and Cantr for the most part. No newbs at all, and everybody almost can make very.. very interesting and lifelike characters. Not everybody tries to be the best either. I've seen some beggars, seen prostitutes, etc. etc. run by real PCs.
