Envelope Sealing

Postby MrPenguin589 » Fri Apr 28, 2006 1:31 am

I'm not sure if this goes here or not... but I just now found that someone can seal an envelope with any name on it by changing their char. name to whatever they want and sealing it. Is this a CRB or not?
All of my endings are waiting to begin.

This was an old issue and was supressed last time, so I suspect this'll be locked and edited soon.

Yes, CRB due to it being abusing the programming. Couldn't knw that since no one talks about it ... but hey.
Reality was never my strong point.

I dont remember this issue being brought up but I wouldnt call it a breach myself, there is no real abuse of programming here.

I would assume this would fall under some type of "forgery" in-game.
Not an abuse of the mechanics. It would be like me writing a note and signing it as a different name. Names of notes thus are always at least a little suspect, and I consider them only 90% trustworthy.

But that's just how I would view the situation.

Ever since I first sealed an envelope I saw how easy that would be to abuse, it's pretty obvious. I think envelopes are just like copy and pasted events, if you're dumb enough to trust them 100% it's your own fault if you get tricked. But at least with envelopes it looks like there's away to avoid that, I see there's a Seal listed under tools and I assume that's what beeswax is for.

I do remember the previous discussion on this and it is most definately considered an exploit by the programming department, which means PD considers it a CRB. At least they should.

This issue has recently be discussed by the GAC, and their decision was that it is not a breach nor an abuse of the system. However, it's not something that is encouraged, either, nor should it be widely advertised.
