OOC Notes

Isn't it a breach to leave notes on all your characters describing their traits as a reminder to the player? Such things should ideally be recorded in an out-of-game medium, or in the player's memory. When a character dies, the appearance of such notes really tends to ruin the feel of the game. Example:
since I played (name edited out), and miss her dearly, I made a new one. Lets
see....
strait jet black hair, a tan complextion and facial features that could be Indian.
Tall lanky and with soft quiet movement that draws no attention to her unless she
wants it.
quiet until she finds the right place to become the bad girl I want her to be.
In my opinion, there is no in-game reason for such a note to exist. I have seen quite a few of these over time, and am becoming increasingly irked by their appearance.

yes. these notes are a breach, especially considering that they're written in an ooc perspective.

Umhmm. All OOC knowledge should be kept on OOC notes. All IC knowledge should be kept on IC notes.
So, describing what your character looks like on a note in game is BAD. (Well, there are exceptions to this, though. Maybe your character is filling out an application for a dating service...?)
Writing down what key numbers go to each building in an OOC note is BAD.
Describing what your character looks like on a note OOC is OKAY.
Writing down what key numbers go to each building in an IC note is OKAY.
Yeah...

Yeah...
Why would writing down key numbers on a note ic be bad?

He was saying that putting info about keys on an OOC note would be bad, and that such info should only go on IC notes.

I'll make a sticky for OOC note reports.
Oni Reborn, what's the name of that note?

What about things like exploring tiredness? One of my characters, a scientifically minded soul, has noticed he was getting tired and so is recording regular readings to understand what makes him tired and what are the best ways to rest. That note includes times (how do Cantrians tell the time? Can we assume they do) and the percentage ascertained from the indicator bar (otherwise, how can tiredness be measured? It changes so slowly that fuzzier indicators like "a good night's sleep" won't cut it).
Does that sound reasonably IC (it is only making use of information freely available in the game) or OOC?

I just want to say something.
When your character attacks someone, the animal does not bleed numbers. So your character does NOT KNOW that they attacked for 14 damage. That would be interesting if a 14 blipped up ontop of the animal. This is one thing that pisses me right off. "I attacked it for 14 damage!" "Err, 14 damage? What the fuck kinda wheat are you on?" - Yeah...
And that has what to do with what? Well, the same for the status bars. Your character doesn't see them. They don't have a PDA in their pocket, that they pull out, and they don't press the "Personal Status" button to show a bar graph of their current status. They just know that they're feeling tired, or they're feeling energenic, but people don't role play this out. They're like "My bar is full of red." GAAH!!! SCREW YOU! *Groans*
So, out of my PERSONAL PREFERENCE, I guess, your scientific character is breaking the CR.

I would also like to say something. It has been said that Cantr and the Real World aren't the same thing, often getting me mad, so I thought of using it here. Maybe in the Real World we don't see how much damage we did, but here int he world of Cantr, guess what, we see that damage we do, thats right, we do.

that's plausible. i've got no problem with people stating damage numbers.
i remember along time ago in kwor, zack kanata messuring damage in horse bites (10% each) since horses were the major threat at that time. i thought it was pretty creative, but kinda cumbersome.

I'd forgotten about that.
But yeah, since it's readily available information I don't see why it shouldn't be used. From a strict RP perspective it's not accurate, but this is playing in the cantr world, not a one-for-one analog of the real world. Maybe cantr folk are just really good at eyeballing that sort of thing, or they're just more aware of nature/themselves?

Bleh.
You can think what you want.
I'll think what I want.
But surely you should agree with me for the BARS of tiredness and stuff. -We- see the bars. The character does not. Just like we see the buttons to open other pages... your character doesn't go around "Oh, let me check the objects page to see if I left my key on the floor..." - Ya know what I mean?

It would help if the charts came with a more easily judged way of evaluating them. For example, underneath the graphics, you could have a sentence reading:
Charname is quite tired and has minor injuries.
A suitably phrased scale could be dreamt up for each one, such as "a little tired", "quite tired", "weary", "sleepy", "exhausted", "dangerously exhausted" (about 5-10 graduations would be about right). That would give a more IC friendly way of understanding the vital signs of the characters.

This is my take, in real life if you do something that makes you tired you can keep up with it and know the effects for the next time you do it. For example if I just up and go run 20 miles one day and am to tired and sore to walk for three or four days I will know the effect that will have on my out of shape body. In Cantr my char knows the effect because As a player I see a bar displlaying how tired or hurt I am. So the char throught the player knows that each time they go hunting they will be X% tired. And because the char knows no other way to express it they write or track the results as Today I feel 50% tired. Besides no one seems to make the same fuss over all the notes on healing food that say eat X grams of tomatoes to recover 1% health.
