Build small ships on larger ones.

Postby EchoMan » Tue Oct 02, 2012 10:50 am

Not my idea, just relaying since I like it.
Is there any way to make it possible to build a small ship like a raft or
kayak onboard another ship that can not dock to land. I know you all work
very hard on making this game right ive been playing for about nine years
and i apreciate the hard work. Thank you for keeping this game free

So, summarized: The possibility to build vessels up to a certain size, on ships that can not dock to land.

I rather like this idea. The "medium sized" boats obviously would be problematic, but I don't see how making a kayak, raft or even a possible Rowboat couldn't be done on the deck of a Galleon for example.

Sorted by weight they can carry, I would suggest the ones in blue can be built on the ones in orange:
    *Raft 75000 grams (L/S)
    *Kayak 75000 grams (L/S)
    *Dugout canoe 132000 grams (L)
    *Reed boat 135000 grams (L/S)
    *Dinghy 135000 grams (L/S)
    *Rowing boat 150000 grams
    *Sloop 340000 grams
    *Darter 350000 grams
    *Longboat 485000 grams
    *Soarer 490000 grams (S)
    *Ferry 750000 grams (L)
    *Raker 800000 grams (S)
    *Galleon 1800000 grams (S)
    *Skimmer 2500000 grams (S)

Edit: Taking water type into consideration, it makes sense that the dugout canoe can only be built on a ferry.

There are some dock to and sea or lake limitations to consider to avoid the problem of turning some of the options listed useless.

I like this very much, and I agree with the suggestion you made on which ones to what.

I edited my post, taking water type into consideration.

For real, though, I like this idea.

Considering where the boats can dock to, these are to options I would suggest:
*Raft 75000 grams (L/S) Build on: dinghy, reed boat
*Kayak 75000 grams (L/S) Build on: dinghy, reed boat
*Dugout canoe 132000 grams (L) Build on: ferry
*Reed boat 135000 grams (L/S) Build on: ferry, skimmer, soarer, raker, galleon
*Dinghy 135000 grams (L/S) Build on: ferry, skimmer, soarer, raker, galleon

I agree, that is a much more intuitive plan. :)

I'd love it.

One of my chars has recently built a sloop, as that was the biggest one she could build without needing a small boat for docking to shores. She is all alone and even if she could build two boats she could never dock one to the other, as I have understood it. And with this option I hope the small boat would automagically be docked to the big one when finished.

Finally a decision that makes living alone and forever on a ship easier. Great ;-)

Yes, that is the whole point of the suggestion, to be able to singlehandedly create a ship that can dock to shore from a ship that can't.

I'm assuming this is sarcasm?

I'd be happy if the implementation was limited to rafts and nothing else.
