Garage

Postby Lone Wolf » Mon Mar 01, 2004 10:30 pm

I think we should be able to build a garage to make vehicles in. We could put all the tools inside and have a lock. Vehicles could also be stored in there. This could be an add on to another building.

yeah I was suggesting this in the forum about the horse riding for some reason. nothing wrong here, and also possibly; farms, watermills to crush grain, buildings with 2 stories, etc.

Yeah, It's easy to have two stories. All you do is have a seperate room called "Stairs Up" and let the player imagine lol.

Any garage that is built would be accesed via the building, but vehicles would leave throught the garage door.

My oppinion: It would be a pretty good idea to have. Say people own a vihicle production plant. They'd have to store them outside, normaly, but now they can produce them inside the garage, and take them out when they are purchased.
Also you could have one garage door leading into another so that you could make different parts of the car in different areas, like your standard assembly line if you were really ambitious (and rich).

Now that this has been bumped *yeah*

I would also like to suggest something that can carry vehicles, namely.......................... a barge or a ferry being able to carry it. A barge would be a nice type of boat to have if its not in yet *goes and checks* I wouldn't also mind a rubber ducky Zodiac or soemthign of the sort, small but fast, and can also dock to larger ships. =) While on topic, one of those "junk" boats or what not "Sampans" that they use in Southeast asia, the wooden ones with sails would be cool, if they are not already considered to be equivalent to the longboat.

is a bot of difference between a long boat and a junk. unless the longboats in game are completely different there the row boat's used in 17th century sailing type ship's to get to shore and between ship's. a junk is a vessel that was used for everyting from sailing up a river to sailing to australia.i think they'd be more like a raker. largish type ship but fairly slow

Garages and Sea Transport

Postby nitefyre » Fri Jul 15, 2005 6:51 pm

This suggestion has come up in the past, but hasn't really received the serious audience it deserves. If vehicles (i.e. the assortment of bikes) were able to be stored in buildings (garages), it will open up more tactical oppurtunities and possibilities. For instance, should a vehicle be marked as 'hot' (i.e. stolen), it could be obscured and hidden indoors. Or what if a government wishes to somehow hide the number of vehicle it operates and making it less of a target, they could hide it indoors.

The second part of the suggestion is to make small vehicles able to be moved onto boats, and brought overseas. This will open up the actual possibility of crusades and invasions beyond neighboring towns, and help with colonizing/discovering new lands.

I think the complaints come in terms of programming, but this is something that should be considered before more ambitious things like genes, skills, thirst, etc. It's a fundamental game mechanic that should have there, but seems to not even get as much attention as babies.

Cantr is in the age of seafaring and needs to be able to do much more with the boats than is possible now. How can we get to the new lands and find the resources there and bring back enough to make the trip worthwhile if we can't safely and efficiently trasport enough food, cargo and vehicles (and later, animals) to make this practical in one lifetime?

Some things we need:

Cabins with locks. For cargo storage and security. Also need to be able to build small machines in them like fireplaces and ovens, tables, etc.

Cargo containers which can be moved between the boat and shore.

Ramps for loading vehicles.

and/or

Crane for loading vehicles and cargo.

Need to be able to fish from a boat and prepare the fish at sea.

I'm sure there are others I'm not thinking of right now.

I know for a fact that the trading post in Kwor has no need for Lions. :D Unless I can ride one!

i think that some things could come built in, such as the cabin, the cargo hold, and the ramp for loading the vehicles. seems to me those would be things you would consider when you're building a ship. now, barrels and other storage you'd have to build yourself, and maybe a crane is something that would be built in a harbor building. that'd finally put a use to the set of ropes and pulleys... yey.

i don't know why fishing from boats wasn't implemented a while ago. it seems only natural.

You can tell that Pie's first character spawned in the age of docile animals.
