I'm not likeing this one... sounds too much like the yearbook staff in high school... only those things that the yearbook staff or their friends got a lot of attention when smaller less important people got next to nothing even if something they did was rather grand.

:?
How is putting in-game announcements and news on the front page or reporting the most recent threads in the forum or wiki the same as your example ?

Just because I'm not paying attention doesnt mean you can yell at me.

It means you should talk quieter.
Seriously shut up, I'm playing here.

I just hax0rd the Cantr homepage HTML and produced this as an example of what I think could be done...

Image

When staff members add all-player messages, there should be an extra text field, which takes a very short summary to be added to the front page, which if left empty does not update the 'news' list on the front page...

I'm at work (hence the crappy 800x600 resolution)... I even tried firefox, but the firewall blocks everything but IE and MS Office, so I can't even listen to Radio 4 Real-Player streams... :(

How about displaying the newest players and/or characters created? Probably pointless for the most part, but newbies'd get a thrill from seeing their usernames and their charries' names on the main page.

Plus, if info about the location spawned is added, players could notice and characters there could more easily 'notice' the new charries. (Right now, there is no 'event', as far as I know, when a charry spawns, therefore no-one notices.) :? Too OOC?

Excellent screenshot, HF. I think that will help a bit to sell it. :)

I should probably make a new thread in sugestions but why not have someting like "you see a man in his twenties wake up" or "you see a man in his twenties at unnamed location" whenever someone spawns?[/quote]

There is a thread for this suggestion - please take some time to find it - it is not really relevant to this thread.

Still nothing done about the main page! God! This is extremely important to attract new players!

Cantr desperately needs new players!

There is still a place for discussion what should e done with that. I've already suggested "the most amazing thing I've done in Cantr", but that is just one thing. We need more.

Jos has spoken of changing the look of the front page and adding new twitter updates to the front page from Cantr's twitter account. It's something I can work on.
