Ok I think that one important material was missed from the list though. Clay, you should be able to mold clay and then set it in a kiln. This could even make something useful, a bowl which cuts down the amount you eat by 20%

My idea on statues and other art objects is offering a personalized description, the lenght of which depends on the lenght of the project. The amount of material used would represent the size and tools and skill affect the finesse. But Cantr system being in question, the tools would have to be predefined.
There could be fixed size options like tiny, small, medium-sized, large, huge, colossal etc. Material options woold, stone, marble, copper, bronze, gold, silver, nickel, iron, clay, carrots and potatoes...
The small ones would be carriable, depending on the material of course. For example a "small" gold item would be likely to weight a kilo or two (part of it nickel) and a medium one would be rather heavy. While something made of wood might be carriable up to size large. Colossal things could only be built outdoors, and maybe in halls. Clay would only go up to size medium or large.
Then the description. For each day you'd get an amount of letter spaces, maybe 5 or ten. Imagine this, if you use one day on a small wooden statue, you could name it "horse" or "doll" or things like that. Most likely the description would be behind an eye button and the main part would only say "a small wooden statue". Compare "horse" to
"A small figurine of a horse standing on it's hind legs, front hooves raking the air fiercely. The mane, carved into detailed curls, is captured flying in the breeze. The mighty beast is baring it's teeth, foam frothing from the sides of the mouth, nostrils wide with hastened breath. The muscles curve softly 'neath the thin layer of varnish, seeming almost lifelike."
Total: 367 characters - 74 days if one day was 5 characters, or 37 days if one day was ten characters, which seems more realistic. On large items it naturally takes more effort to create details so maybe the letter bonus would be smaller for them. Then again it's hard to make details on tiny items so those would require finer tools.
The problem is descriptions would have to be spell checked and approved by moderators to avoid descriptions like "z0nNites5ux" or "ARlyDtaildImgOfOurGr8KingGeorg".

*thinks* Yes, I think I like this better, I did kind of like the idea of skill affecting the description as in the original suggestions but then whats to stop someone calling the item, "Beautiful stone cat figurine", so instead of
Project finished: You have done an ugly stone figurine "cat"
you have;
Project finished: You have done an ugly stone figurine "Beautiful stone cat figurine"
People abusing naming items shouldnt be a problem. Just start a thread for poorly named items like the notes threads instead of checking every one thats made. People wont spend days making stupidly named stuff if it'll be removed as soon as someone else see's it.

Then you'd put Medium marble statue...
"the statue dipicts the bust of Senator Vernes, and on it is a small plaque saying "Senator Vernes, leader of Karnon" It is made to flatter the subject, it's shoulder muscles noticably bigger and it is strangely devoid of wrinkles"

You mean of characters, right? I don't think that would be hard to program at all, it would be kind of like a corpse, exept without inventory and the model could be alive. But what if the artist was a poor one? Would it still be recognizable? You could dynamically name the statue like a person, but if the person came to town and you hadn't seen him before, it couldn't say "a man in his sixties slightly resembling King George (a huge stone statue)" because it's a black and white world, either someone looks like themselves or then not, no shades of gray in between.
Hmm, it would be cool if people had some characteristic attributes, like the shape of nose and other vague things like that, and they'd be marked by hidden numbers and the more features two characters had alike, the more they'd resemble each other. Faces would sort of fade if you didn't memorize them, like the faces of loved ones and important people, and if someone was out of town for long, they'd appear as "Betty Pretty or someone who's a spitting image of her" (gone for 10 years) "a woman in her fourties resembling Betty Pretty" (gone for 15 years) "a woman in her fourties who looks slightly familiar" (gone for 20 years).

Sunni Daez wrote:monuments , colossuses appear to have a use...I have noticed in Cantr, if it doesn't have a use... it most probably won't be wanted. Clothing is a prime example. Until a function is created for clothing, it is not necessary...and it is hard to find those who want it. I think art would be great, but like the diamond encrusted sabre.. it is only for show and very few will desire it.
Not really. Clothing is of less value than it should be because players don't get to see it often enough, not because it lacks a function in-game (eg keeping warm). People didn't begin wearing clothing because it kept them warm in the first place.
Same with art. Cantr's landmarks also have no function really, but people are gradually beginning to make them, and for other reasons than originally intended. I'm surprised not to see a massive "graffiti" use of landmarks, in fact. Seems that charries are very very nice these days and towns very secure.

Already sitting in Accepted. http://www.cantr.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10493
I like this thread better, though, so I am going to move it to Accepted and displace the other as a duplicate.
