That's just what I do and it works fine for me.

I guess I'll be a bit... conservative in here for once, I'm with Sunni this time, especially having had to see some explicit sex activity outdoors lately with no possibility for my char to enter any building -going to "hide" to a road was phisically possible but absolutely absurd in rp terms, so I blessed once more that new preferences button xD-

I don't like this. This would mean I can't tell two horny characters to go behind a tree/big rock to do their thing so that I the player don't have to see it. I mean this mostly for my characters who don't have any keys and/or are in locations with few if any private buildings (I definitely don't want to see it in the public workshops, etc).

I think people should post at their discretion what emotes should be visible from whispers.

And that's why the special character idea is so great :D The character can choose whether or not to use them!

Yes, this is not going to be implemented without the use of a special character to distinguish public emotes, so we can just forget about the idea of all emotes being public and move forward.

love the idea, with the tag that allows people to emote publicly if they want to. saves the pain in the but of talking then emoting next line.

* Tom glances around nervously, wondering why Doug R. and t_a_h are glancing at him meaningfully, while t_a_h is suspiciously clapping him on the back, and Oasis is hugging him, a single tear running down her cheek. Fearfully, he dashes inside the fortress and double-bolts the door. *

*grins as Tom goes running inside, then hits a button and watches the barricaded building explode... cue announcer:* Does Tom make it out alive or not? Tune in next week for the two hour finale!

Right-o. Yea, being able to combine whispers and actions with a voluntary hash tag is good. Let's bump this to accepted before we get ourselves into any more trouble for wandering off topic (sorta). ;) (Please don't make me bat my dragon eye at you.)

I don't like this, simply because its functionality that expects a specific user input. I've seen people use other types of emotes, even myself long ago. So for someone who wants to be sneaky:

I think we should kill Doug. ::glances at Doug::

That would not be emoted from a whisper.

I think its a bad UI practice to change things without explaining on the page why or how something is being changed.

I would personally support this with the mentioned tags, but, Armulus has a point.

If it's implemented, those who rp'd normally with differen't emote tags than the ones mentioned here would have to adapt, and be forced (if they decided to use the feature) to rp using tags different than they normally would.

It's just a matter of who's willing to adapt, and who's not, at that point I think.

This whole game functions through specific user input. I really don't see how that's an argument. Now, it's a choice if you want to make an emote public or not. If this is implemented, nothing at all changes. The only difference is that this would be eliminating a step, and a line in the events, which is a good thing. I really don't think Armulus understood the suggestion.

For example:

*she speaks in a hushed tone to Armulus* I think you misunderstood the situation. *shrugs*

If we CHOSE to make the emotes public, it would be this:

*shrugs*
You see she whispering to Armulus
*she speaks in a hushed tone to Armulus*

Under the proposed system, we could make the same CHOICE this way:

#she speaks in a hushed tone to Armulus# I think you misunderstood the situation. #shrugs#

Would appear as (for example):

*she speaks in a hushed tone to Armulus* (She whispers to Armulus.) *shrugs*

1 line vs. 3 lines. A 300% improvement in event clutter in this situation.

Oh, and if the emote symbol being auto-generated is a problem (the special # being turned into a * instead of a :: or ** -the only other two I've seen in-game), we could allow the players to enter their emote choice, with a * being default.
