Car Repair
There has been discussion on wearing down of tools and objects and discussion of having cars in Cantr.
Just to open that up again...
Do you think it would be fair if cars were picked as the first thing to wear out?
I was thinking that at max an engine last ten years. But that considers that the car is not used sometimes.
What if a car enigine was limited to 100 hours of use. Not that it would go away automatically but that there would be a 1% chance of the engine becoming useless only when the car is in use.
The engine would disappear (with a message) and the car would come to a stop at it's next location. I think with just removing the engine you would even have the chance of turning around until you reached the next location.
I think that balances the effort of creating the inital set of cars with how hard it is to create new ones now. It's not like you have to replace the whole car. Just the engine. Better have a equipped mechanic ready to build you a new engine.
100 hours of use may sound low to some but in Cantr terms drving an hour a day on average that is 5 years between engine rebuilds.
And as for the wearing down of everything else. That is a seperate topic. I am just focused on engines here.

So wait, are you saying that there is a chance that the car's engine would need to be replaced for the first drive?.....small chance yes but still a chance.....how about for like a certain amount of time this can't happen and then ag=fter the time passes, then the chance comes in......also, can like 5 people push the car to where they want?, i mean it would be slow and ofcourse more people would make it fast.....just wondering
I was not intoxicated while I wrote this.

What if instead of building an engine as we do in game, we build parts for the engine such as the Block, air filter, crankshaft, Altenator, Starter and engine fan. I know there are more parts to it but we can't get too out of hand. Then with meh's idea of wearing down, those parts could break down. now instead of replacing the whole engine you could just replace certain parts. each part could have a different way of wearing out so that chances of more than one part breaking down are little.
Also if it were implemented that traveling across grass lands were faster and easier than mountains, that could pose a factor for certain parts such as if you go into the mountains alot, your engine fan would wear down, along with the altenator. You would want a special engine for vehicles that go up mountains alot as well as crossing deserts and swamps.
Just an idea,

And thus CAntr reached a new age. Modular building...
I'm now waiting for assembly lines to be implemented... car plants, shipyards, massive textile factorys. And a union...
Dun we all love the industrial age? Finally, the cars will make sense.

nah we can't go right into the whole modular build thing since we can't have more then one of the same object going into construction yet because of programming(don't shoot me only what i got told).there are a few thing's i'd love to put into the game but we can't yet due to this problem but hey crap happen's. we live with what we can do and try our best to get around them

I think it'd be great if the engine could break down but only if you could repair the one you have. Make it a project and possibly make the amount of time required variable depending on how badly broken it is.
It'd also be great if location & type of road could increase or decrease wear on the car as suggested above. Driving on a highway should be relatively risk free - but off-roading in the mountains should almost always end up with a broken car.
If you're going to create damage then a maintenance project & factor should be introduced - so someone who spends work cycles maintaining their car periodically would be less likely to have it break down. This would also let Mechanics emerge as a true skill/career.

dirt peasants are we??? just because I CHOOSE not t have a car? you do realize I wont make or use cars in the game because i feel they are out of place? Cars should not exist in Cantr world yet, our other abilitys are to primitive.
we should, in theory only have wagons or something small like a wagon that one or two people can drag with them.
Here I am. BITE ME. or not, in fact, never mind, dont want some wacko taking me up on the offer. Only non wacko's may apply for bite allowance.. no garentee that you will be granted said allowance, but you can try.

Cars should not be in Cantr, why? Cantr does not follow real life ways of advancement, does it? Last time I checked it didn't. This is a game of Civilization. Ever played that? You can research say, Wheel, then continue down that path, and eventually have Planes and such, but still not know ANYTHING about sea travel. That's how Cantr is. Civilization in itself. The technology is different than real life, and so it shall stay.
