Rare animals

Postby Lone Wolf » Mon Jan 19, 2004 4:12 am

How about creating rare animals, like the unicorn. Have only a few scattered around. The hide could make better clothing than other hides and the horn could be used for extremly strong spears, or something. People in some towns would never see them, others would go out in search of them. There are alot of animals that could be used as rare animals. Like Stalions, that you could ride. You could also make up animals that aren't in RL. I think this would make the game a little more interesting.

If rare animals are made then they should always be traveling, so it would really be hard to find......like you see 1 arrive and in like 5 minutes RT it leaves somewhere else.

It sounds like a good idea to me. One of its primary advantages is that it should be much easier to implement than most of the other things being suggested, and yet would have a significant effect. If the rare animals are sufficiently valuable, you could have some "hunters" who do nothing but run after unicorns. Of course, beasts of burden would be more difficult to implement, but even having animals that give special materials would be enough.

Some of these ideas have already been implemented. Your characters should explore more ;)
And I believe the game should remain without "fantasy" elements as it has thus far. There certainly are animals less common to certain areas than to others.

I agree that fantasy has no place in Cantr. So there are such animals? I never knew. . . For that matter, my characters have never even seen horses, so yes, they really should explore more.

There used to be horses all over on the k-island. You had to risk your life in order to go gather some wood. They all got killed off because they were so agressive.

You know what would be cool, if you killed the wolf leader of a pack, and you made his fur into clothes and put it on, the rest of the wolves would follow your orders.

or they'd kill you, like in real life...

There's lions around, too. Apparently their claws are like sabres.

My char Herry Patter met about every kind of animal on the Pok island it seems. Unfortunately, this was just after he gave away all of his belongings, so he had no weapon or shield. He lived though, thanks to Billy.

Hmm, you say that there would be hunters in search of them, then it's said that they are very rare, so how would hunters of heard or seen them if they are soooo rare..

Or am i making myself look stupid? :(

perhap's the char's friends and family where killed by the animal and they are on a revenge hunt or the animal could have travelled through there town making them wish to hunt it like a moby dick kinda thing. and if they give things to make rare weapons and tool's perhaps make it so they don't appear on the list of things to build so as to stop CR breach's oh people hunting things they've never heard about or seen ?

Well, my socks have been rocked.

Too bad there's not many rare beasts on the new islands.

Ah well...I love the barren expanses of some of the older islands...they're much fun.

Gorillas are nasty little buggers. Mountain goats and horses are bad too. Never seen a lion. Pelicans and hawks are really annoying to say the least.

I think... you should be able to make clothes out of boarskin that reduce the amount of damage you take. Those are some TOUGH muthafuggas.
