I was reading Marians post on melting keys, and read her part on memorising key numbers and it just dawned on me, why not be able to attach a little piece of paper of something to give keys a name (Which of course I do in real life with little slips of plastic). This could either be free, with a button attach name next to the key, and then it would come up with Key 29472948 - Dropped pirate key no 2
Or - Key to Bike
Or of course it could cost a little, say 2 iron to add a small dogtagish like slip to the key, or even just have to engrave it using a knife, or possibly a smelting iron

I've been wanting a way to name keys for a long, long time, but I don't think it should need a special project. Why not just make key names dynamic like with buildings and vehicles and everything else?
...but then again I'm pretty sure I've seen that suggested like that before, I can't remember but there was probably some reason why it would be hard for he programmers to do. (Because otherwise I can't believe it wouldn't be added already, it seems so obvious and something I bet everyone would want.

I'm actually suggesting that it be an instantanious project like note writing, only perhaps an instantanious project that takes a few grams of something or requires you to have a certain tool to do

Oh, okay, assuming you've already gone running in and out of every single building, room, and vehicle in town to make a list of the lock numbers, you open the note, copy everything from there to Notepad, then go to whereever your keys are. Spend about five or ten minutes switching back and forth between Notepad and the game, pick up the keys you want, then go to your inventory and spend some more time searching through the keys there before selecting the ones you want to copy. Double check just in case before adding the iron and realize that you have the wrong key after all, the one you wanted just had the same first four digits, so you get to do it all over again.
Hey, you're right, that is a lot easier than putting the name on the key itself...

It has been disucssed many times before. Here are two topics on the matter:

I used to be a porter in my hall of residence, pafrt time, and as a security feature keys (more than 40 from memory) on the ring could not be labelled. It could take me 10 or 15 minutes to find the right key. Some of the old gits who worked there full time got to recognise the keys by their shape. And the Head porter had a master key

This was when we knew all they keys had uses. It strikes me that you are simply seeking a shortcut to do something which most cantrians do as they go along, which is make notes.
It's not like you ar all....

Now i have strayed off to the topic too many keys... When people die all their stuff appears so neatly on the ground, and i mean everything until the last drop of milk. It would be fun when a percentage of their belongings starts missing progressively from that moment on. Blame the animals or insects, wear and tear or erosion for all i care but it would be fun for the sake of controversy.
When an grown up char finds a set of keys some keys in the inventory belong and some (or a lot) are unknown, maybe they could be stored in an enveloppe?

I do make notes. The problem is they don't work. All that stuff I wrote about? I wasn't exagerating at all, I just had to do that a few days ago, it was very frustrating, and it wasn't the first time.
