Map drawing board / Sextant

Postby marius76 » Thu Aug 10, 2006 11:32 pm

Could it be implemented, that you could make map drawing board (or whatever it could be named.....)
With this tool and sextant in hands you could register all your "location" pictures in a one big picture (maybe resources either, and exits to the nearby locations) And the map you draw could be as a key - to copy it you should need some quite valuable resources (let's say - some wood (or maybe paper...)) so that it could not be wide spread across the whole CANTR world, and it could only be updated by having these two tools (drawing board and sextant) in hands.

Thats all my thoughts..

Awaiting for critics :)

Actually, I may be reading hte original suggestion differently, but what I got was that your location images could be saved [IF] you had this Sextant-tool in hand.
This would enable some sort of project to "map the land?" while travelling, and draw a full-colour image instead of using copy/paste messies like I'm try to do with one of my characters.

Not quite the same as the "make a sextant" tool suggestions before. :)

Interesting idea....or I'm WAYYY off the mark in reading comprehension tonight.

Yes, there is that aspect to it, which is a bit different from the earlier sextant suggestions, which have mostly revolved around reporting coordinates of the ship for easier manual mapping. That does have some merit, which is why I didn't think the thread should be locked as a duplicate suggestion. :)

I wonder if this idea is a bit too much automation to the process, though. Stitching snapshots together takes quite a bit of work and is a nice challenge in the game. If anyone can just crank them out without much effort, it kind of cheapens that.

I don't like automatic maps ... the current maps players make are among one of the cooler things in Cantr and automatic it would ruin it.

The sextant has been implemented.
