That's a good idea--kind of like a sheild.

Only not exactly. A full suit of boarskin armor (quite possibly obtainable from 1.5 boars and would include boar leather helmet, boar vest, boar gauntlets, kilt (pants may be too impossible to walk in), and greaves/boots) would give the wearer 100% chance to defend a small bit from an attack (maybe just as much defense as the boar gets, maybe a bit less, even, maybe more as the curing process may harden the leather further)
Perhaps a single part of the suit would just act as a shield with a percent effectiveness proportional to its size? That is, the helmet would have its effect on an amount of blows proportional to the probability that it would land on the head, and so forth.

When I thought of the Rare animal idea, I was thinking of animals that would be very hard to find, and very hard to kill. People would hear about them from other characters, then a hunting party could be formed. The Rare animals could even be made up. remember Cantr isn't a place in RL, so why do the animals have to be? It would also be cool if you could click on an animal and get a description, including size and if there is blood around showing a recent kill. Let's not forget. People set out for materials they have never seen. So why can't people set out for animals that they have never seen. We have animals right now, and not many places want to have hunting party to go gather meat fur and bones. With rare animals it could be a good business, like fur traders. But if this was to be implemented, I think the animals should reproduce so that there is always an animal somewhere, though your character may never find it.
Some are friends of the Wolf.....others are Dinner

The animals do reproduce at a certain rate, and there are a few animals with special resources useful in unique objects. I also periodically adjust the animals numbers if they become too high or low in an area. In addition, I've designed a couple new animals and am working on placement.
Besides, there should be hunting parties just for the meat and hides, what cantr char could resist tasty grilled meat instead of old dug up carrots and potatos?
