Yeah it took 15 hours to dock once... we were doing 10% to try and dock with a boat and then someone on board decided to dock a coastal destination instead....

the speed you were travelling when you dock , seems to be the speed at which you dock!

It always docks right after 75% with me, but I've only tried with a raker, longboat, and dinghy. I just dread it when I start docking and it says something like 35% though, since that usually means I'll be stuck waiting a couple of days.

75% = you'll land next hour
55% = in two hours
43% = in 3 hours
Etc.

You do mean your boat don't you - because these figures depend on the type of boat and how much it is carrying and how far it was from the docking target when docking was started - They are not universal

Other than being wholly cryptic, is there a reason we can't have the docking system tell players "You will dock in X hours" ? People end up figuring it out themselves, but it'd be nice to just know, instead.

Every boat I've ever been on. The %s might deviate by a few points, but for the most part, it's the same.

Perhaps the caveot is that I'm always close to the target for these %s to be valid.

So, you start a docking proc then cancel it. At this point, is the boat now headed directly for the target? ((Having set a blind sailor off, any helps to navigation would be usepful.)

I believe Chris said after you cancel it, your boat will continue at the heading and speed it was going before the docking was started.

Yes that is the case . It resets the previouse speed and heading

The implementation of the docking boats being thrown in everyones faces is pretty far from realistic. There should be a way of seeing if a ship is docking, but not one so obvious. You wouldn't see anything docking unless you looked.

How about when there's the vehicles within visible range thing, it could say in brackets after the name and type (docking to town) or (docking to Coastal Harbour). That way only the aware ones would notice.

That's what I was thinking. But far better worded.

Well, you woudn't see someone entering a busy town unless you looked either. That's cantrealism for you. ;)

And just to beat the poor dead horse, I've had a longboat take more than a day to dock (Ergo, Doug R. isn't quite correct). Probably partly because I and one of my crew are hyperactive people who are online to hit the "dock" button as soon as the coaster harbour pops up on the event screen.
