Can two boats of the same type dock to each other? Like a longboat to a longboat?

No. Anthony explained that somewhere...

I actually thought that this had been implemented, as I came across a recent situation involving a longboat with a cabin. Unfortunately, I now realize that this was merely a cruel joke..... a boat with a cabin that had been built back when it was indeed possible.
So....... I am bumping this, as I am sure that it is only an oversight that lockable cabins and containers on boats are not listed under "Accepted Suggestions"

i know that lockable contaners would be useful on boats but it would remove pirates completly they wouldent attack other boatsbecase anything worth robbing would be in the lockeable contaner

No..it would just make it harder for them

Locks can still be broken...and with the change of the boats docking to boats, now needing keys for both ships...the lockable containers are not as necessary to stop Pirates...but if you transport people...having a lockable container would be nice

possibly but when transporting you would probley be wearey of a man/women with a big saber and wouldent let anybody with killing powers on the boat with you so if they tryed to steal you would kill them before they could say "*** i was so close"

Well whilst not a sign of offical acceptance , there is a Flyspray task (#211) which includes the ability to lock containers regardless of where they are .
It's definately something which ProgD are aware of

All containers and all items of furniture can be built on boats (if there is enough room) with one exception, and that is the lockable drawer which currently must be built in a building
However the lockable drawer (and mailbox) can be locked and unlocked but you can't put anything in them . This feature has yet to be implemented

A bit off topic...but if I can build a primative smelter on my boat...why can't I build a simple spindle?

It's not weird... If you go on real boat, most likely there are many lockable things on it... Of course it depends on the type it is as to what kinds of lockable things are on it, but still it's no different than packing a trunk, locking it and dragging it onto a boat for travel purposes...

I think there should be a specific type of room to build like a ships cabin and through there you control the boat. By building that you are making a room around the steering wheel.

I think almost exactly the same wording was used to suggest this somewhere else, alongside the five other times it's also been suggested...
