Musical Instruments?

Sorry, I'm pretty sure Nick or someone has already said it, but how about some instruments? Wouldn't neccesarily have (or need) a use, but gives wanderers a guitar to RP with. And will lead to "Cantrian Idol", which would give undertakers just alittle more work to do. :D

Item: Guitar
Needed: 400 grams of wood
50 grams small string
50 grams of iron

Tools:
Planer, hammer, carving knife

Item: Iron Harmonica
Needed: 100 g of iron

Also, electric guitars should double as weapons, because thats how rock stars are.

^LOL^

Certain kinds of metal (is there any copper in Cantr?) could be used to make horns, trumpets and stuff. Wood could be used for flutes, clarinets, violins or didgerydoo's. A saxophone would require metal and a bit of wood. Drums could be made out of wood and hide.

Etcetera, etcetera....

Perhaps music can have an advantage on resting? Because of the easing effect of those harmonious sounds.

Drums! Hide or leather stretched on wood carved hollow. Big ones could also be used for messaging between close locations. Like smoke signals suggested elsewhere but with sound instead of smoke and doesn't require fuel other than your muscle energy.

1240-8: You hear a newspawn trying to play a violin

1240-9: You see same newspawn garroted by strings from said violin

But right now, it takes nothing to role-play a musician. If we need to actually build instruments... what then? Anyone who wants to be a minstrel will either be singing a cappella, or have to spend 5 years making an instrument, just to have it degrade in 2 years' time....

Flutes can also be made of bone, for those less-developed areas that don't have wood. And "bones" (a small percussion instrument) can be made of bone or wood.

Great. Now I want a xylophone....

One of my characters was this close *holds his fingers very close together* to banging two empty halves of coconuts together while he was singing. He thought it would be better than drying papayas to make maracas. That would have probably earned a beating. He might be pushing the annoying limit as is sometimes.

wicita's got the right idea guys and gals...

if you're playing music - do what musicians do best - improvise - who said there were no instruments in Cantr? If ya wanna RP bongo playing on the skulls of long dead newspawn bodies no one's bothered to bury yet - go for it!

Yes, please introduce instruments! I suggested this awhile ago as a way to alleviate tiredness. If the person plays the instrument (as a project) then everyone in hearing distance would get a boost to regaining some of their tiredness bar. Think of going to a concert or something and relaxing while you are there. Of course, someone should also implement strong beverages at this point, too... :D

I would like to see instruments introduced someday... although it'd be a low priority implementation. I think that if you're going to introduce something, you'll want an in-game effect of some sort. Not sure if helping tiredness is the right way to go here, but there definitely should be a music skill attatched to it... maybe bad music playing distracts anyone in hearing distance from their work, slowing down their project times... whereas maybe good music gets everyone into a groove and makes them work better.... or even fight better!!!

Just imagine a guy playing war drums! or a bagpipes player! They'd start an music playing project, and the attackers would charge and hit everything for a bit more power!

Haha!

*calms down* Okay, it's late... I'm starting to get too easily amused.

I disagree. I like the fact that clothing has no use except that you get to wear it. I think if instruments are implemented the only thing they should do is make noise. "You see _____ beating on a drum" and it would increase tiredness for anyone who used it, thus people would appreciate the fact a person was playing it.

My saxophone doesn't have any wood in it..
Unless you mean the reed.. but if instruments were to be introduced I'd like the reed to be a replaceable part... It would be very expensive for someone to build a new saxophone every time their reed breaks.

I do mean the reed. It is made out of wood. And it's a very essential part of the sax. And I suggest that when saxophones are introduced in Cantr, reeds don't break. The whole instrument (also trumpets, guitars or whatever) deteriorates just like tools and weapons do.

In a similar way strings don't snap, drumsticks don't break, trumpets don't need to be oiled, etcetera etcetera.... There is no need to make Cantr as realistic as reality, nor is it technically possible.
