No, good example. You made my point.

We have no arrows, and the text implies you beat the target with the weapon, so surely the logical assumption is that we hit them with the weapon.

That's why crossbows hurt so much, all those small pointy bits making up the firing mechanism

Yes, my point being, NO ONE actually thinks that way when they attack with a bow. To have people beating others with a Longbow is simply absurd, even though that is the way it is. The human brain is trained to reject the absurd and make it make sense. They IGNORE the fact that arrows don't exist, just like they will ignore the fact that there is no bow for the violin.

*Solfius looks dumbfounded, as he plays his violin sans bow*

The violin bow is made from part of the wood and sinew.

Instruments should be in their own Build Menu category now. Thanks ProgD. :D

May I tack a small request onto this thread? There should be a "Manufacturing Music Instruments" skill.

I'm a little concerned about the manufacturing times. A day to make a wood flute? Anyone can carve holes into wood, but to get a noise to come out, at the proper pitch? That's art. I'd say increase manufacturing times by a factor of 5.

1 Cantr day is equal to 18 RL days (365 / 20 = 18.25) so 1 Cantr day to carve a flute isn't unrealistic IMO

That's if you're assuming that they're days are longer than ours. I just assume that they age faster.

No.. Make them take too long and not many will bother with them. It's perfectly reasonable for Cantr. It would take more than 2.5 days in real life (around all the things we have to do in our lives) to make a cotton dress (of quality), but it's fairly reasonable in Cantr.

Also, keep in mind that people are working on just the flute or whatever while they make it. They don't have to stop to eat or stop to use the bathroom or go to work all day then come home and work on it in their spare time. It is their work, as long as they choose to work on it. They don't even really have to stop it to hunt.

And it will take more than a day anyway, if the char pauses to work on something else or go inside for awhile. It's amazing how long Cantrians can spend at something without really getting tired of doing it (other than being rp'd tired of it). I wish I had as much patience for getting tedious projects done.

Edit: Oops, read something wrong on the quote I used in the part I deleted. Sorry.

Of course not! And why would you even have the desire to? ;)
