It may seem silly but there is only tools for getting stone and no machine for it.

How about Dynamyte? Blast the damn stone?

that requires gunpowder, and so would allow for pistols muskets cannons etc, and that isn't a direction I think that game ought to go in for now as it increases the destructive potential of the violence system

There are a few towns I would like to plant some dynamite in.

Then what does the "Digging Machine" do? I assumed it was a stone machine

As far as I know, digging machines are only for sand.

I try not to mention things I know about machines in the forum.
But yeah thinking the same thing I tried building a digging machine where there was no sand and got an error message that there was no sand.
Now think how mad that chracter would have been if his digging machine started pouring out sand.

If you know a mechanical way to mine stones, please let me know and publish the website you have found the info on. It should be something on the technology level of the middle ages - 1800 and before. Somewhere before the industrial revolution. If you can do that, we can add it into the game. I have tried to find it myself, but have not succeeded sofar. Maybe you guys are luckier or wiser.

Well, haven't looked for a website, but this is how it was (even is) done for thousands of years.
Hammer.
Chisel.
donkey dung.
Make some holes on "strategic" spots of the stone, depends on how wig the block must be.
Then put some of the dung (and rags i believe)in those holes. Then some more hits with hammer ans chisel in those holes.
If all goes well, the stone will split into the desired block, shape and size.
I dint believe was mechanized already in the middle ages. It is still done in some areas i believe.

I would think it would be similiar to a drilling machine. You cut grooves out on two side then drill into the bottom and pry up.
http://www.wku.edu/Library/200Years/whtstone.htm
for very large stone
To cut a section of the stone, a steam-powered (later electric) cutting machine called a "channeler" or "wardler" with five drill bits was driven back and forth on a track laid on the stone. Then, a line of several holes was drilled at the base of the cut, and a row of wedges was driven into the holes between slips. When the section of stone was loose, a steel derrick laid it over onto a bed of soft stone, which cushioned the fall. The stonecutters then used a straight edge to mark off the stone and the stone was split further to reach the size for a given order. Finally, a derrick loaded the stone onto the railcars to go to the mill in Bowling Green.

“Pioneer innovation quickly changed the method of quarrying with the invention of specialized tools. Now blocks and posts were quarried using hand-operated drills to place holes into the limestone strata 8 inches apart. Then feathers and wedges were placed in each hole and pounded until the rock split into desired lengths. Some historical sources report that stone blocks could be quarried in the winter by filling the drill holes with water, as the water froze it would expand and split the rock. In the late 1800's, Sanky, a local blacksmith invented a machine that used a Maytag engine. This machine operated like a sewing machine, when the drill operator stepped on a low handle, the engine would power the drill.”

A powerful quarrying machine capable of cutting slots in stone at any
angle. It is used for cutting dimension stone off the quarry face without
explosives. See also:broaching

To revive an old thought, if gunpowder ever becomes implementable, I would like to see dynamite become possible.
You collect 750 grams of stone by hand
" " 1500 grams by pickaxe
" " 15000 grams by dynamite, and the stick is gone after. Maybe use one stick to yield 15 kilos in a machine called "mineshaft" to make the dynamite an object used in the process.
Dynamite should be near-impossible to make, but seeked by peoples who specialize in selling of stone and building roads and houses.
Just a thought I had.

Today a new spawn picked up dynamite and walked into the kings castle and
accidently blew it up leaving the whole town damaged and others dead.

It would work best if we have a project on the stone quarry which accepts a dynamite resource for an even bigger stone yield. (Like we will be able to build stone quarries any time soon anyway)
Project blasting for stone.
Machine: Stone quarry
Raws: 1000 grams dynamite
Yield: 15,000 grams stone

15454, I realize its been suggested. Surprisingly, I know where to search.

AND I gave some relative backup on my reasoning.
Secondly, a newspawn who finds keys and a crowbar and....the Caravan 2 from Pok

can do just as much damage as dynamite. My suggestion? Don't let them get any.
How is progress moving on making the stone quarry buildable?

Manufacturing of stone quary isn't possible because of lack of some resources... And this is perhaps most dificult to build machine in Cantr - even if we have timber everywhere.
I think better alternative is to have possibility to manufacture stone or new resource - equal to stone and used for buildings:
cement
Cement (or 'stone') can be made in kiln or small kiln from limestone (or maybe sand) and clay.
This give more possibilities to use clay and kilns.
EDIT - if we can refine bitumen from oil - why not stone from limestone?
