Can we have pipes? Wooden, ceramic, porcelain, etc... Wearing them would look as if the charrie was somking and goes in the descripton.

That has been suggested before and the only problem is that they would require a new category. "Rp-items you hold in your mouth" sounded a bit naughty. Then again there could be a category called "other accessories", that would cover for the golden teeth people have been wanting.

Why not just put it in the clothing category? We know OOC that a pipe is technically not clothing, but if it functions IG in the same way -- put it on and get a blurb added to your description -- then all is good.

Everything under clothing is within subcategories, such as hats, shirts and such. It is so that a person couldn't for example wear 6 hats on top of each other. A pipe could be classified as a mask but some people might complain that they have to take off their eyepatch to be able to smoke.

Couldn't pipes be handled like music instruments?

I can't imagine people running around with a pipe in their mouth all day anyway. (Perhaps because I'm a non-smoker )

i like the music idea...more realistic...and about the clothes sub-categories...Why not create a new one? with the pipe and gold teeth and whatever more...(but putting it on music would work better I think)

Yes, that's what I just said. And music instruments can't have detailed descriptions. I think it would be more informative if it was under clothing.

How detailed a description would a pipe need? Perhaps it's just my lack of fantasy, but how much can you say about a pipe?

I agree with Piscator. We also have the category of portable furniture which we've used for other visible objects. I don't really see any reason to be wearing a pipe.

Well, alright then, although the problem with visible items is that they are always visible. Maybe something similar to musical instruments would be good but that would require some coding, since you're puffing on the pipe, not playing a tune with it.

If some coding is necessary anyway, it would be nice if a small amount of tobacco ... or other herbs... would be removed from your inventory when you take a smoke. But don't let us stray to far from topic...

Mechanised smoking is a can of worms. I can make a pipe, but I don't think it's worth the debate nor progd's effort when you can just rp smoking.

I'd like to see suggestions for both wood and corncob pipes.

Both one day with a carving knife.

wood pipe: 100 wood

corncob pipe: 150 corn + 50 wood

A porcelain pipe would be cool. A painted version might be nice but Cantr doesn't have paints, it would have to be like building signs, just include a paint brush and some extra time and assume that people can come up with paints.
