Materials Required

When making a project could we get it to list the amount of resources left to put in, rather than/as well as the amount that has been put in?

eg.

sand (35865 grams used of 36450 grams needed)
to
sand (585 grams needed)

Purely for convenience sake.

Easy to implement, and useful information. I agree.

But then you lose the initial amount of material in the project, and it's not reachable anymore.

Can't it be both? Maybe something like this
sand (35865 grams used, 585 grams needed)

I agreed to the "as well as" in the OP. :)

We wouldn't want to remove that information I guess.

I thought of this earlier but then I forgot. It would indeed be handy if it stated what was added and what was still needed.

I think it would also be good if the tools were listed as (present) and (missing) or something like that, instead of being color-coded, because I have trouble telling the difference between the two shades of gray so I usually have to check my inventory to figure out if I have the right tools or not.

Another thing that would be more complicated but still related, would be color coding or otherwise marking projects on the activities page based on if they have all, some or no resources/components added and if progress is at 0% or elsewhere. Seeing that they're already highlighted based on whether someone is working on them or not, some sort of a verbal explanation might be better. Something like "just a thought" for ones with no resources or objects added, "lacking resources/components" for partially filled requirements, "good to go" for all resources added but no work done on it and "partially finished" for ones with progress on them.

Or the missing-color could be made more visible like in my Cantr-skin:

Might not be a bad idea to add some text for it as well. Maybe just:

(And yes, those checkboxes are actually texts)

I wouldn't substitute "missing tool" for the name of the tool. One of the things that made FTO suck so bad is that you didn't know what tools you needed to do a project. I don't want to see that there.

I don't think he meant that it would literally say "missing tool". ;)

I don't think so either. I was trying to point to how the implementation could look.

What if you just put a check or asterisk next to tools you either have, or were missing?
(choose what makes most sense)

I like my Cantr as text-based and grey..well. Greenscale as possible.
All this fancy HTML formatting doesn't look too nice on an 8-bit monitor or via text-to-speech interpretation. Just sayin. 8)

If you'd actually taken the time to read my post, it's only text. Different in color, yes, but only a suggestion on how to make the missing tool / non-highlighted character a bit more visible. I promise you it won't break your monitor. :)

I'm feeling illiterate at the moment (?). Can someone phrase this better. It shouldn't be much longer though.

raw_name (Z grams needed. X of the Y grams required has already been added)

How about this?

raw_name (Z grams of Y grams have yet to be added)

The X value is not that interesting in my opinion as long as we know the total volume.
