Let Vehicle radio (receiver) and Ship radio transmitter be build inside holds, not only inside cabins.

*bump* And strongly agree. It seems kind of silly not to be able to have radios anywhere on a boat.

I checked the original RD thread and didn't find a reason to exclude holds. Probably they were simply forgotten.

Yeah. That's because I just made the changes.

I don't think that we should have radios anywhere though. Spray water is bad for electronics, so I rather not have them on deck. (Radios were restricted to inside locations on purpose, so we would have to review that policy before we could allow them anywhere else.)

I said "anywhere on a boat". And it's just bad that ships don't continue moving in the direction you set them too, unless someone is on deck. And you can't be on deck because you have to be where the radio is. It's just annoying.

Ocean spray. The water that splashes into the air when it hits something at a certain angle with a high enough force.

It's the slippery slope. If we allow radios on deck, why not outside in towns? Then again, a radio on a ship deck is essentially identical to a radio on a vehicle...

Perhaps a compromise, keep the transmitters inside, but allow receivers outside.

Will common sense finally hit the deck?

Or maybe rooms will not be completely soundproof forever...

I suggested somewhere that you should be able to build external speakers that would re-transmit any messages to the next location outside the room with the reciever. That would work too.

I could live with Doug's compromise as well.

I'd love to see either outdoor speakers or some sort of recording device that would spit out notes when messages came through. Allowing only a receiver outside would be nice, too.

Sometimes it's not wanted in bigger conversations by radio. It could generate quite a number of notes in short time. Especially with radio spammers in action. It's like mass note coppy in several locations without even being there.
