If someone really doesn't want to be heard, they can say something in such a manner that somebody would have to be intentionally eavesdropping to hear, and would probably be seen doing so. It would kind of defeat the purpose of private conversations if the privacy wasn't assured.
True.
And it would make it even weirder if people emote in whispers.

The thing is all other implementations would be more complicated and require a lot of work. If you want a fool-proof private message, use a note or go into a locked building.

Then again whispering something is easier if there is a lot of background noise to make it harder for others to understand what you are saying.

One issue. Is it possible to exclude messages with "OOC" in them? So no OOC messages end up being overheard.

It should be possible but I don't see why OOC should be excluded. Not like people were supposed to be using Cantr for private OOC chatter. Could you elaborate?

Well, I don't think stuff like [OOC: Are you okay with roleplaying <insert>?] should be made known to others.

But if they're going to role-play it outside, it could look even worse. It might be good for others to know that consent was asked. But if Jos agrees with you, it should be quick to add.

People will abuse it. They'll just end all their statements with ooc just to assure that they won't be heard. OOC comments are grossly abused in this game. If someone overhears one, too bad.

If they really want to keep their messages secret that badly, they could just as well use a note. Or talk outside of the game. :S

This might stop some public sex, but when people move their conversations to notes, you'll have the same problem as there is with whispering now. There will be long, solid blocks of nothing but note-passing. What's the difference?

That it isn't as likely to happen 'cause it's not as easy.

And they
would be detected if it got excessive.

I keep OOC out of the game unless I make a horrible mistake that I can not roleplay my way out of.
I also try to say every single emote while whispering out of the whispers. Unless it is something small like the look on my chars face changing, for example.

Also, not all the towns are the size of a house. Places like Siom, Seatown would be pretty damn big, and if I was whispering to someone on the outskirts or behind a building/alley. I think the chance of someone hearing my conversation would be almost non existent, especially when the towns that size, a few have less than ten people.

Agreed. Got the official word from Jos - moved to accepted.
