The option to get married is there, and so is the option to change their last name. If you find your own characters name on the people list---or click on your own characters name when you've seen it on the events list, you'll find you are capable of changing your characters name. :)

The point would be to have a commitment with another Char. Maybe in the future, children would be another reason. If it is done right, a marriage can be great RP. With all of the useless violence that goes on, (not counting the wars) the protecting and bravado can be quite interesting. It is going on already.

It is definitely not for everyone, but I had a char that was getting married, and it never came off. That led to another whole avenue of RP.

Now if Cantr is like San Francisco, same sex marriages would be a real challenge to RP. Personally, I would not have an interest in that, but it might be fun to watch it develop if the right players were behind it. I think the key is the right players. Good RPers can pull anything off.

And also, why not have the men change their names? After all, Cantr isn't set up as matriarchal or patriarchal, it could be either way. (personally, I think matriarchal is the smarter way to go irl, because maternity is always certain, but paternity can always be questioned. But that's a whole other topic)

I have a married char...they've been traveling their island for 8 years together...after the first few they decided to get married. Works well.

Sort of off topic, but even maternity isn't certain anymore, thanks to hosting and cloning.

And there's no reason there has to be monogamy either.

BETTER YET.

polyamory

Postby g1asswa1ker » Sun Feb 22, 2004 6:07 am

My wife and I are very happy to be polyamory. Been so for 3 years and we have 4 kids together. So I don't see why cantr can't have the same.

Yes to clarify it is an open marriage she can do what ever she wants with whom ever she wants as can I. We don't have any jealousy there is no reason for it we both love each other and know that niether of us are going to leave each other. We respect each other.
