All of the above has been changed today, as they were simply too good and was unbalancing the game.
More balancing will come.

Drying rack
200g meat into 100g jerky automatic.
Is now 100g meat into 25g jerky automatic with manual assistance.

Smoker
400g meat into 350g smoked
Is now 400g meat into 275g smoked

Meat jerky
22g eaten per day is now at 47g per day

Smoked meat
22g eaten per day is now 44g eaten per day

For the projects already started, will you have to start doing them manually in the middle of the project? and how exactly are we supposed to know we have to do in manually without using outside info? :P

Automatic progress is still possible, but manual assistance will speed that. This will be in the wiki, I'm sure. But, isn't it more interesting to find out in game?

Old projects won't change, only new projects are changed, afaik.

Sanchez is right, automatic with manual assistance is exactly like it sounds. It's automatic, but you can help to make it faster.

Only down part is what about those sailors, surviving off of these foods, and had planned it out perfectly? Now they might run out, and players would be angry.

Can I inquire as to why this change was made? Is it to just keep making survial harder and harder?
Had this been implimented 20 days ago... my charri would have died just short of finding land...after being lost for 30 years!!

why not change the raw food amounts to compensate for the harvestors. it took alot of time to make all the string for the drying racks and now things are just changing.

No, nothing of the sort. It just that those two were the most unbalanced, so we did those first. It won't all be made less efficient either, some things needs to improve too.

I've seen lots of communities where everything revolves around meat jerky, basically a food for free. We're not against that per se, but being able to feed 18 people with 4 drying racks and no work at all is insane.

I do realize that such a drastic reduction has consequences, but I hope this will be for the best in the end. Sailors being lost for 30 years can't be the norm, if so we could never change anything. You had no way of knowing that rot even inside buildings wouldn't have been implemented for example, so I'm not buying into that argument.

If you only have meat and need to feed a lot of people I suggest cooking meat in a large pot

The difference is that drying racks required no interaction at all. Your char could do other things while your drying rack produced food at ridiculous rates. The smokers were always slightly unbalanced in the raw resources vs output...drying racks were incredibly so...

Not sure I agree with the increase to consumption, but I do understand why the changes were made for production. It's still lighter food for travel than, say, raw potatoes.

So you can make 25g a day, but you eat 47g a day?

And it seems like you are trying to make all the food have pretty much similar rates. But, in real life, some ways of making food are faster than others, that is why they are used more commonly. Are you just going to say this is one way that the game is diifferent from real life?

this will really hurt the game, should have left the amount you eat alone....

Far too drastic of a change there ceselb.
Yes drying racks have become a probelm, but why cut the nutrition value?
Why cut the amount made? Why not keep the amount eaten and the amount made the same if it is worked on instead of automatic?
Why bother work on drying meat if it takes more to eat then you get out of it?
Seriously, how much work does hanging meat take to dry?

When the meat drying was made automatic, the production rate was reduced, I seem to recall. Yes, the change was needed to manual, but I must agree that it's a bit of a shock.
I think you should have given notice of this change.
I remember the smoker killed off ovens, and the racks pretty well killed the smokers...

Yeah, I can understand the problem, but the solution you've gave us is just WRONG!
The production rate change - sure - it's ok, but the consumption...

So you can make 25g a day, but you eat 47g a day?

Why to care about making it, then? To stock it up for a journey? But with that rate it's better to have some baked potatoes made - only a bit less efective, but heavens faster to be made

Only down part is what about those sailors, surviving off of these foods, and had planned it out perfectly? Now they might run out, and players would be angry.

That's what makes me the most angry - I've got some charries with a noutrission based on the jerky and smoked meat, with no easily gathered food around. Now, they'll have to stop pay less attenshion to their aims, and take care of that sudden food crisis. That really messes things up, you know...

If you only have meat and need to feed a lot of people I suggest cooking meat in a large pot

Sorry, but that's not a suggestion for those who's got really only meat.
To make smoked meat you need only wood and meat.
To make jerky you need only wood, meat and some sinew for a string.
To coock meat in a large pot you need:
- meat
- wood or dung
- stone for a pot
- iron - for a chisel to make the pot
- some more stone or whatever for a deck grill / fire place / some kind of oven
And even with that, coocking was already more efective than the first two - due to production/day/consumption.
The first two was for those who couldn't afford the third thing, with the jerky only for those who hasn't got to worry about the meat process rate (only 50% output of input, for the others its much better) - and now you've messed the thing for them.

Now... everyone's complaining about how the civilation stagnates, there're no more great cities etc., so what do you do? Make the people care more about getting food, so they can spend less time on making other things, trading, developing their towns...
WOW, I'm really impressed! Way to go! Let's put Cantr into a nice, comfortable coffin and off with it!
Yay!
