Why we haven't silver wire? In real world silver is the best electric guide...

I thought gold was, but silver is much cheaper so is used more. WHich is the same reason copper is the most common wire.

OktawiaN, silver is the best conductor

When I was in junior high, I thought that copper is the best conductor since it's used so commonly! XD But yeah, silver is better and gold is even better and platinum is the best. The only reason copper is used is because it's so cheap.

I agree. Silver should be used to make wires.

Code: Select all

Real life information:
micro-ohms per centimeter

Silver 1.59 Best
Copper 1.72
Gold 2.44
Aluminum 2.84
Zinc 5.8
Platinum 10.0
Steel 10.4
Tin 11.5 Worst

The cost of silver is just too high to be used as wire. Silver is used in switches, breakers and relays.

The RD work for low power silver, gold, and platinum wires has been done for over seven months now. We are just awaiting some ProgD work. Currently there are no plans to make high power silver wires.

Silver is one of the better electrical conductors at room temperature (better then copper, gold, and platinum). However, gold also sees use in high end electronic devices. Not because it is a better conductor, but because it is much harder to oxidize. The contacts on many plugs are gold plated for that reason.

Aw damn. I wanted to be the one to bust that gold conductor myth. *Points to avatar.* I have that for a reason.

Oh well. Still like the idea.

ยต ohms/Cm...

P=RA/L?

(That's the right equasion, physicists?)

He listed resistivities of wires corretly... the lower the numbers the better...

I know... I was just wondering if I was thinking of the right equasion for Resistivity...

THis has been implumented. someone should move it to implumented. *nods*

Moved.

You should have been able to move it yourself. Check out the lower left hand corner, there are little bitty buttons. Just make sure you uncheck the "leave shadow" button, because getting rid of shadows is a bitch.

Oops. Sorry for not getting it myself. And Doug, probably best we not teach pie how to use all of his forum privileges just yet. ;)

Please note, the project will still display "copper wire". Any of the three available "low power wire"s will be acceptable - silver, gold, platinum, copper - hopefully we can get that straightened out asap.

Could we please rename the copper wire to low power copper wire?
It would help lessen the confusion both in game and wiki.
Trouble is they're not of the same weight, but maybe we can still make an unified 'low power wire' object?
