Make Fire without Iron Tools

Is there any way to make a fire without iron? The only thing I've seen is either a fireplace (which I think needs a trowel?) and a fire pit (which needs a shovel, which needs iron). It's extremely inconvenient to have no way of cooking meat, especially since most of my characters seem to settle in wooded areas where there's usually plenty of animals, but no iron. Is there a way we could implement a firepit without iron? Maybe just using wood? Like rubbing sticks together :)
Of course, it's possible that I'm simply overlooking another way to create a cooking fire, in which case, can someone please tell me how? I've looked through all the tools, machines, played with the meat trying to get it to spontaneously cook, made a cooking stone (which does nothing without a fire under it), argh!
Thanks :)

You are not overlooking anything.

Somewhere on this forum is the reason "to encourage trade" which I know sounds bad when your sitting there with no iron. At least there is a firepit. That was a comprimise from only having ovens that can only be indoors. Now instead of bringing a trowel to the woods you need a shovel. :?

It should be possible to build a firepit without a shovel or stone. I have done built firepits in real life without either a shovel to make a pit or stone to put around the fire.

You could theoritically do that but unless you have accelerants to start the fire then you will have a hell of a time to start a fire without a pit dug in because the wind (even a small amount) will blow out the fire you are starting thus the reason for the pit in the first place. The rocks also help deter the wind. But you can also use really big pieces of wood instead of rocks or old pieces of laready burnt out logs used before.

But the question to you is if you don't need a shovel or pick axe to dig for iron, coal, stone, etc... in the first place then should you need it to dig a measly pit and put a couple of stones in a circle in the first place with a shovel?

I'm so sick of everything needing iron. It's incredibly unbalanced. Basically the older players have already established their reign over the iron and they're all terrified that everyone will use it for weapons and to make steel for weapons, or that people will get more powerful than them, so they hoard it and only share with their friends.
While I don't blame them for this, it does totally suck because everything it seems requires iron! In real societies, people use what's available. They don't just sit there with a huge load of raw meat, make clothes out of the hide and fur and stuff out of the bones, and then just go "oh well, I don't have a shovel for a pit" and toss the meat on the ground. They use their ingenuity and imagination to figure out ways to use what they have around them.
I've dug a pit with a stick before irl, it's not that hard if you find soft dirt. I mean, come on, did cavemen need iron to create fire?
*steps off her soapbox   *

Us iron poor demand a bone shovel! :)

The hip of a large animal could be used as a shovel with some wood?

Cows and horses have a flat part to their skulls that could be used as a trowel with some wood?

Why is everyone so set against it? Do you want everything to be built with just a hammer and 1000 grams of stone? I like the way it is. You'll just have to make some efforts getting ur character and town uip and running. And the necessity of iron make politics quite interesting. :D

Well, don't attack the older players. It is our characters that keep the iron because of events that happened in Cantr past but there are still areas that give iron out pretty freely and remember, Karnon Forest is part of a new island where many new players have been ending up. And there is no conspiracy among older players to keep iron or steel or whatever from newbies. It all depends on the are and what experiences the characters there had. But it is quite natural that older characters will have better access to iron than new characters. And remember that older characters were newer characters at one point to and it was hard for them to get iron at one point.

And after all of that, the Resource Department is looking for way around iron and have been researching what machines or other tools were used back in the day that did not require iron. If you know something that we do not know then post such a thing here (post with a picture and name so we can see what it looks like and what it is) and we will see about implementing if possible.
