Why not in the foot title - or just above it - thats where other non-player orientated stats are displayed

If it's draining any resources it would be nice if people can see it

Hmm... now it could be confusing to player - what kind of minutes it is about - Cantrian or real.

I think that this counter should not be visible on login page, because can discourage new players or potentialy interested people. I would move this counter to account page to be accessible just for players.

Even if here would be 200 active players - it doesn't look good comparing to other games. When we would have 500-1000 active players, we can think about using it as a marketing tool - definetly not now!

PRUT, I think that some could be encouraged by this feature, even if there was small number, or by just fact that this feature exist in this game but sure, we can wait to show them

It can be added in the player's page, but as Spillages suggested not with quantity of players, but quantity of active chars

If it is possible and quantity of chars would be in average about 1000 or more - then it could be added to front page where it was today. Then it would be a marketing tool
